I have an 18" shorty, and I feel the urge to get another Norc. First off, is there any difference between the Polytech rifles vs the Norinco's?

Second question: do the Poly's and the Norc's both come in 18.5" and 22" versions?

Third: am I stupid to just go buy another shorty? Is there any reason why I need-want the 22" version?

No real difference, depending on which labor camp produced your fine new rifle ;)
I'm not sure if there are 18.5" Poly's? Somebody will chime in who knows. My full length is a poly, my shorty is a norc.
You want/need a full length version to keep in it's iron sight configuration, cause we should all have a full length iron sight version right!?

Your next question will be, do you put your full length in a boyds wood stock, or a USGI glass stock...dead ###y either way.

Now go buy the full length!

+1 on the full length

You already have the Shorty, so why not off-set with a full length sister. Boyds' , Treeline or a nice Italian Walnut Stock look is the way to go on IMO.

One M305 is good two is better. U better go get that second one or your #### will fall off, as one poster on this site suggest. A 22 inch barrel will let U reach out a for better range, but the down side is barrel whip will increase and accuracy may fall off. My Norinc will shoot into 1 to 1.5 inches at 100 meters most of the time with carefully prepared hand loads with a scope and a bipod from a bench rest.

No "need" to buy another full length. No "need" to buy a shorty. Buy whatever you like the look of best. Not going to notice a difference at any of the ranges 99% of us shoot at anyway. And buy from the EE, so many m305's on there you are 100% sure to get a better deal here anyway. I was at wild west shooting centre yesterday in WEM, new norinco m14s (in really nice wood stocks mind you) were selling for $900!!!!!

At minimum you'll need a shorty for a handy bush rifle, a long one in classic battle-rifle configuration for fondling when watching war movies, a long one with a scope in EBR configuration for long-range plinking fun, and another shorty in a modern stock for tacticoolness factor. That should give you fully-redundant ####-loss prevention ;)

Buy them , build them , no matter , they get lonely in the gun safe so you need a few together to keep them happy .
