buying a 597 VTR and this, what do you think?

Buying a 597 vtr off a fellow CGNer and also a Bushnell Trophy 4-12X40 AO. My first rimfire, do you guys think this will be a good combo? Also the rifle comes with 4 30rd mags, is there an easy way to load them? It will also come with Magpul CTR stock and pistol grip...Also, what is the best ammo to use for this thing so there are no FTE FTF issues, any recommendations? Never bought .22 ammo either lol only been shooting the big stuff.

Change the extractor and hammer an 8 yearold can it and there will be no issues with any ammo. The 30rd suck mahke sure that you get the factory one. I love mine with the iron sights but to each his own.
 
which extractor and which hammer and where? Dont think the mags are factory but for 325 for the gun and 5 mags i cant really #####.
 
scope was from another guy and cost $75, but it seems to be over $150 everywhere I've looked and Japanese made too. Thanks for the link
 
That 597 might be a little over scoped with that bushnell trophy :) By this i mean I'm not too sure if the gun will ever shoot well enough to need 12x. I've seen a couple 597's that i wouldn't put more than a $50 4x32 scope on. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of remington, especially remington rimfires, but face it, it's a semi .22 :) If it's coming as a package deal, though, awesome! And you never know, it just might be a real shooter.
 
30yards prone no sling open sites 5 rds fairly quick
. As you can see with crap ammo it still shoots well. The better grouping is my wife’s target. I say it was just the ammo I guess I suck. For me I love open sites. at 50yds I can zap a squral no problem

Well the guy i got it from said he fired 400rds with 0 fte/ftf, so hopefully its not BS. Since this is my first rimfire I dont know anything but here is what I got:

597 VTR, regular A2 stock (sells for $389)
4 30rd mags ($88)
Magpul 5pos CTR stock ($149)
Magpul pistol grip ($30)
Bushnell Trophy 4-12X40 AO (sells for $149-189)
shipping $30

Total Value with GST: $870

I paid $505 total with shipping for all. I figured if I hate it I can probably get my money back, what do you guys think?

I'm interested on any feedback you can post after you take it out for a spin for a few months. Looking at one myself but can't decide on it or a Ruger sr22.

now i have to learn about what ammo to use. Guy at WSS sold me winchester super x t22 targets as being the most reliable but at $38 it seem on the high side..
