Buying a barrel

Just curious. I have a spare barrel that came with one of my handguns. But if I wanted to purchase a barrel what is the exact procedure.

A barrel for a prohibited handgun - fuggeta bou tit.
A barrel for a restricted handgun, or non-restricted firearm - locate the one you want in Canada (through E/E, dealer, etc.) unless you can legally import one (could be expensive, and US export restrictive rules apply to US sourced). Buy it and have it delivered.
All it is is a steel tube, and of itself has no requirement to be registered.
