Hi group just started my search for a budget bolt action
22 lr

I have looked at the following rifles just looking for input

Savage mk2 ones I have looked at bolt seems stiff might be
From sitting non oiled on dealer shelf

Ruger American rimfire much smoother bolt nice advantage that
It uses same mags as my existing 10/22

Or option C find a used/pre owned CZ Browning or ?

Any input/experiences appreciated

Thanks in advance

I would go the cz route having owned a few myself. I still have a 455 heavy barrel. Good guns and if you do a trigger mod they are improved. 457 might have better factory triggers I am not sure.

I have a Savage Mark II (iron sights) and it shoots very well - have over 5k through the barrel - I think I paid just over $300 taxes in. Did recently look into the CZ457 they are nice but also cost 2 1/2 times what I paid for the Savage.

YMMV

If I was looking I’d check the EE as there’s a collection of new unfired CZ 452s for very reasonable prices! They are gonna sell quickly

What you want to use it for?

You can find used Anschutz target rifles for under 600$ at times. My 64 Siloullete was 600 and my 1403 was 500 a few month ago.

My budget is $1000 or under preferably sub $800
I kind of want something to hunt with plink with
And maybe some light target shooting

I passed up a 77/22 a few years back guy and wanted
$750 for it and it was mint kind of regretting not picking it

Nothing wrong with the Mk2. If you look in the 50-yard challenge thread you'll find many have put up some decent groupings with them. Depending how nice of a scope you mount on it, you'll come in well under your $800 budget.

I remember the bolt on mine being a bit rough at first too, but after cleaning it and cycling it a few hundred times it was fine.

Another vote for the CZ457 synthetic. It's more accurate than the MK2 I have as well. I'm into mine for less than $1k with leupold rimfire optic and talley rings.

lol i have a mark II FVSR. and yes as accurate as the mk2 is the the cz synthetic is more accurate! one day it’ll get a chassis and bull barrel but, for now i very happy.

If your going for a budget 22lr buy a savage. They are reliable, decent shooters and buying a savage rimfire supports Canadian manufacturing as they are made in Lake field Ontario. You can get a MK2 for under $400 after tax's, or under $500 for some of it's nicer stocked varieties like a MK2 BV. This will leave you room to buy half decent rings and a half decent scope with a good warranty while staying under the $800 budget.

don't over think it, there are lots of rimfires sold in many brands
With no specific criteria there are literally dozens to choose from, they all work to some degree

don't shy from the Scorpio em332, its a little rough around the edges, but can hold its own for accuracy, and has solid built metal mags to go with

Another vote for the Savage bolt guns.

I have a B22FVSS. Regularly under MOA shooting SK Long range Match and also quite regularly with SK Standard+. But really shoots most ammo’s just fine never worse than 2moa. Really really enjoy this rifle and be very happy with its performance. Mounted a Bushnell match pro 6-24 in vortex pro rings on a mdt 20moa rail.

Additionally I own a CZ 457 Canadian. Beautiful rifle fun to shoot and very reliable. Decently accurate with most ammo but not on the same level of accuracy as my savage B22. The ones more of a 1.5 MOA normally with good ammo and blows to 2.5moa when running cheaper ammo. This one wears a Vortex DB tactical 4-16FFP scope on weaver rings. Love this rifle and it’s my go to when I practice shooting off hand. It wins the beauty contest by a mile over the Savage. But it’s not the more accurate gun and it did cost $250 more to buy.

You might want to consider a vintage .22 from the 50s, 60s. Brno, Winchester, Mossberg, Marlin, Stevens/Savage. They tend to shoot really well.

Go asap to the EE, there is a fine gentleman selling several NIB CZ 452's that are slightly upscale from a budget .22.
You will not be disappointed in the accuracy and reliability of these guns.
