I think the .270 gets a bad rap for being a bit too fast for the light 130gr and 150gr cup n core bullets of decades ago, even my uncle in his late '60's says "You don't want to shoot a deer with a .270, way too much meat damage".
If you compare it to the similar Euro cartridges like the 7x57 & 7x64m they both ran heavier bullets at slower speeds which would have produced nice clean expansion, penetration, wound channels, the stuff we like to see bullets do.
The 270 with a 130gr Barnes or Partition or Bonded core is a great close to medium range cartridge for just about all big and small game out there cept the big angry bears.
