Very nice that someone is going to buy you such a nice classic rifle. A M-70 Super Grade is identified in two chambering's, 30-06, and thanks to Jack O'Conner 270. I also have a 75th anniversary SG, and it only came in one chambering, 30-06. Why, because over the years more M-70's were chambered in 30-06 than any other cartridge.
So in my Fudd type mind a classic rifle should be chambered in a classic cartridge it is noted for. I would suggest 30-06 and if that not possible then the 270. Save the 7mm-08 for a Remington 700.
