All,

I am curious as to your thoughts on buying a GSG-16 with it appearing on the C21 list.

On the one hand, it seems one may be purchasing a rifle that could be stuck in the safe and/or turned over at some point.

On the other, purchasing a rifle that one may not be able to purchase in the near future is also a consideration.

Thoughts?

Buy it, stop worrying about the clown ass government. People thought I should be worried buying an AR-7 after they brought in the backdoor registry. Like I care that the RCMP know I own a .22. They already know I'm a gun owner. If they're doing house calls to pick that up then they've already collected every restricted and prohib firearm and every "scary" black and red rifle. I'm probably boarding a train to the gulag the day after anyways. See ya ####s there!

Save your money or buy a different rifle... they're plastic and pot metal crap and you will regret spending the money on it. .....I've owned the 16, and the stg-44. And although the 44 was a bit better build, the internals were identical thus...crap and not all that reliable to begin with.

Which one do you recommend for plinking in 22LR? Thanks!
I have one and lost my interest just two times to the range.

For plinking /gophers and whatnot a guy can't go wrong with the 10/22 platform for a semi, also plenty of older units that are great as well nylon 66 comes to mind along with the Mossberg 151 line if ya like nestalgia (I have 2 I'd sell as they have become safe queens over my other choices I have)

Outside of the AK type looks of it i do not see the attraction, but never owned one. If I were going to spend $500+ on a gun I think I would looks at the Ruger or Savage, The Ruger 10/22 is a solid gun that you can change/modify or just cool up to your hearts desire.

If you really want the GSG16 then buy it and dont worry about C21 for rimfire guns...yet.

Marlin 795 is always worth a mention. I also like the Winchester wildcat. Both of these options have last round bolt hold opens, which the 10/22 (and many other designs) do not.

IMO the 10/22 is over rated. If you want to put $1000+ of parts into a gun then it's a great option due to how robust the aftermarket is, but otherwise they're kinda expensive for what you get and at least with the one my friend has it didn't excel in accuracy or reliability.

That said, the GSG16 has been on sale a lot of places for just over $400 lately, hard to not try one at that price.

As for c21, the named list that included the gsg16 has been pulled, so c21 itself won't make a difference. All semi autos are at risk of ban in the future, so just buy what you want and use it now while you can.

You can find older 10/22's for the 350-650 range all day long. Get one from the 80' or 90' with the metal trig guard...it will last a lifetime and if ya wanna lipstick it up...have at er. And I'm sure that id Suthers had ever owned anything GSG he would understand what I'm saying when I call them a waste of your cash. But buyer beware and have at er!

And yes, that Marlin does deserve mention For sure.

I ended up grabbing a GSG-16 for $470 shipped. Threw on a cheap red dot from Amazon and had some fun at the range.

I have a 10/22 but wanted something with more than a 10 round magazine.

I looked at a TM22 but it was significantly more cash with the GSG on sale.

I forgot to add that if you do buy it stick with the mags and do not buy a 110 round drum. It took forever to load and it never ever worked properly. I found it difficult to get a proper grip with the drum on.

I just grabbed one.
Bass Pro had the 9" on sale for $599 with 2 mags and hard case.
Bought some parts to make an mp5 clone.
