buying a press out of the states?

I would recommend specifying shipping via U.S. Postal Service. The other guys will nail you with brokerage fees.

i used to order my stuff out of the US but now i bought a rcbs pro 2000 auto from Henry N on here for less than if i got one shipped from the south. So before you send your money south Check with Henry N

Absolutely. Many US vendors simply don't know about the increased costs when shipping across the border. UPS is remarkably cheap within CONUS, which is why most of them use it.

x2 to mooseman1. Henry N. is a good guy to deal with.

Is Henry N just stocking supplies and equipment for rifles/ handgun reloading or does he cover shotgun reloaders and components also??

Why don't you put some feelers out here on CGN. There are always people looking to get out of shooting and you may find yourself a real nice dillon. I
remember when I went from my lee turret, I had bought a Hornady progessive
from my gun club and after 2 days of messing around with it finally took it back
not very happy-was very finicky. The Dillon I ordered in(550) was nothing short
of amazing and cranked out really good quality rounds and as fast as you could
pull that handle. They are know for their no B.S warranty and great customer
service. I even have one of their tumblers and it has worked awesome and replaced a failed RCBS unit-not to knock them. This is all just my opinion but buy
a good one and you won't regret the $$ put out for very long.

Got my Dillon 550B from eguns... Cheaper than buying it straight from Dillon and to my door hundreds cheaper than buying in Canada. Buy my dies and bits from eguns, sinclair, cabelas etc. Primers, powder and bullets most brass is all I buy up here...

X2 Check with Henry. He recently gave me a quote on a press and it's about $30 more from the cheapest I could find in the states. It might save you issues with duty, taxe and overzealous CBSA officers. Since he's local to me, shipping won't be an issue.

I bought a Lee Anniversary ( or something along that line ) in Minot ND about 2 years ago.
I should have done my homework because the saving was negligable. Time and fuel spent... I may as well have bought from a small guy here in Canada.

ITAR 121.1
Category I-Firearms

(b) Riflescopes manufactured to military specifications, and specifically designed or modified components therefor; firearm silencers and suppressors, including flash suppressors.

You are right but why the US allowed scopes for hunting rifles to be grouped here is beyond me.
Are hunting scopes to military specs.I don't think so but who knows.

Rule was made by bureaucrats. Military specifications require (among other things) that the scope be capable of magnifying. The fact that hunting scopes share the same requirement is just "tough darts." :p

As Larry Potterfield (CEO of Midway USA) explained to me in an e-mail years ago when I enquired why they had a blanket ban on selling to Canadians when many of the items they sell aren't, or at least, weren't, restricted, he said that "someone could [arbitrarily] decide that the boots I'm wearing are a military item". So they decided it was just too much hassle to try and figure it out. (Brownell's has an Export Division who do that.) Ironically it was the selling of scopes to Canadians that landed Midway a $250,000 fine several years ago, Once bitten, twice shy, as they say.

I looked this up recently and the complete section reads as follows.
I've marked the relevant section in Category III(d) Ammunition in bold italics

Nonetheless, if you look on Midsouth's website and bring up "Dies" you will see this:

This item is regulated by the US DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE and may require an EXPORT LICENSE for international orders.

Either they are just being overly-cautious (like Midway flatly refusing to handle ANY Canadian orders) or there is another clause somewhere that overrides the ITAR regs. quoted above.

I have a Lee Classic Cast Turret Press, with about 25 other items needed to begin reloading. It does'nt come in a kit, so I basically made my own kit up. I ordered from factory sales in Wisconsin. It is currently at the border in Canada Customs now, and has been there for the last 9 days, according to my tracking #. I don't know if they are just backed up, and it takes a couple weeks before they get to every package that is shipped to Canada, or if its been held up for some reason. I do know that alot of other guys on CGN buy from factory sales .com, and its not fancy automatic press so I am hopful that it will be here shortly.

"$100 Import Cap"? I just helped my buddy pick up $9000.00 worth of kitchen cabinets he ordered from Tennessee. The only thing they said at the border was.."That'll be $1120.00 in HST please." I had ordered some parts for my MG and picked them up at the UPS Store in the US. $45.00 taxes. No problem.

I also ordered my press from Lee (Sorry, it's a Pro 1000, but I couldn't pass up the price and it's OK for what I do. :) and got it sent to the UPS Store across the border. At Canadian Customs I was only asked if it was for 'commercial use'. Uh, no. That was it.

Order your press (the one you can afford, Dillon is great) and get it sent by MAIL, not a courrier. Trust me. It will work out better. PM me if you want further details about that.

I wouldn't sweat it. With the dollar above parity I'm certain they are slammed at Customs. My last 2 orders from Sinclairs and Natchez both took twice as long as usual - 4 weeks instead of 2 weeks.
