buying a prohib for the purpose of having it stripped

What would be the process for one who doesn't have 12-3 or 12-5 status but who wanted to buy a prohib USGI M14 to have it stripped of all it's goodies by a gunsmith?

Why don't you just ask the seller to sell you those parts and have him turn in the receiver.
Aside from the barrel, everything should be reasonably easy to strip.

If you don't have 12-3 or 12-5 status you can not buy a "prohib USGI M14"...........even just to strip off all the parts.

You only options are as suggest above. Ask the owner to strip the rifle to the receiver and sell you the parts.

Have someone you know and trust that has the proper Prohib class buy it for you and then have him strip it for you.

Yes but as soon as you show any interest in a prohib M14 as I have suddenly they are worth $1800. I paid $700 for my TRW back in the day. I want one to put in the safe. Not all of them should be organ doners in my opinion.

Oh, believe me I'd much rather none of them be organ donors but I'd also rather buy all the 'organs' off one and save em for an LRB build than see that rifle never fired again. Unfortunately I highly doubt our gun laws will get less retarded as time progresses...

Why start a build with used parts? Yes I realize they can be checked for wear but a new receiver should get a new barrel, bolt and all the trimmings. You don't put a new chain on old sprockets.

Barrel and bolt I agree but it's not so easy to source NOS triggers, etc up here...

Buy the rifle - that is, pay for it. Have the seller strip it down to the barrelled receiver, and get the parts to you. Then the seller delivers the barrelled receiver to a gunsmith licenced to work on prohibited firearms. He'll need to get a ST SAP to do this. The gunsmith removes the barrel which goes to you. The receiver can be disposed of in any legal manner.
Or, pay for the rifle, arrange to have the receiver chopped up; the destruction of the receiver will have to be verified. The receiver ring is still going to have to be removed from the barrel by someone with the tools to do so.

You can be the straw buyer.. Talk to your gunsmith.. You buy it and have it sent to the smith who dismantles it... They can dispose or sell the receiver... I've bought 2 K frame revolvers this way.. the smith changed the barrel and verified the "new" gun...

Here is another twist on breaking a M-14 for its parts.
Apparently, if a 12(3) CA is dismantled completely, the stripped receiver no longer has 12(3) CA status. It becomes 12(2) - full auto - but is not and cannot be registered as such. This situation was first reported when someone attempted to transfer a stripped M-14 receiver from a dismantled 12(3) rifle.
This is similar to the situation respecting 12(6) pistols. Rebarrel one and it can be reregistered as restricted. Remove the restricted length barrel, and the receiver reverts to 12(6), but cannot be reregistered as such.

Canada is forcing us gun owners to take this route.

In the new year I will be actively seeking and paying cash for 12(3) m14 rifles, for their partsn and the recivers will be going into my private collection thru the business. At this time I'll gladly be the middle man should folks require a "straw buyer" arrangement. I also cringe at the thought of folks chopping or destroying those receivers.
