I'm trying to decide if I want to buy a shotgun or my first restricted firearm. Always wanted a glock....how do I go about buying a restricted. I've been told you have to wait a while...and you need to be apart of a gun club..but I can't get into any gun clubs around where i live (whitby/oshawa) so is it impossible for me to get approved for a restricted firearm right now?

Although I haven't purchased a restricted yet from what I have read on these boards in Ontario you can buy a restricted and have it transferred to you without a range membership.

Depends on the CFO. Generally speaking you need a membership to a range. As long as you have a valid RPAL you can purchase online or at your shop of choice. Once purchase is complete the transfer is initiated and the wait begins. Time frames range depending on the CFO/Province. I've heard some can be completed on the same day, others can take several weeks. Once completed the firearm can be shipped or picked up. Don't forget to make sure you have the appropriate ATT in place.

CFC website should be able to answer questions for you as well.

That may be the case to purchase, but I believe that you need to belong to a Range to get an LTATT, in fact I think that in Ontario your range applies for your LTATT for you.
So I guess if you're happy just having a restricted handgun at home to look at you would be ok, if you want to take it anywhere legally and shoot it you need to belong to a Range I think, 'cos you need a transport permit.

In Ontario, you can purchase a restricted before joining a club. Since it can take many months to become a member of a club, you can mention to the seller the name of the club you are intending to join when filling out the paper works. You can apply for a STATT to have the restricted sent to you or you can pick it up yourself. Once you are a member of a club, the club will apply for your LTATT on your behalf.

perfect, thanks for the reply.

Oshawa has a gun club, also check out the Orono one too. If you buy a pistol just to look at sooner or later it will turn into trouble.
