Looking at buying a semi auto that I could use both for clay target shooting and possibly a little hunting. My price range is around a $1000. Presently looking at the SX3, the Silver Hunter or the Versa Max...thoughts and any other recommendations. I have been trying to wait for a used 1187...but hard to find!!

The SX3 is a really nice shotgun. It is fairly light, and soft shooting. Internally, it functions the exact same way and most internal parts relating to the gas system, if not all are exactly the same as the Silver Hunter. With the SX3 you get a lighter gun and you save yourself a bit of cash. I have used one, the store I work at has one as a demo between all of us its seen many cases of shells through it with zero issues. I'd guess at 2500+ shells fired at the very minimum. I can't comment on the Versa Max through using it, but I've handled one. It does feel nice in the hands but it is does feel significantly heavier than the SX3. We have sold dozens of SX3s without any complaints.

I own a Super X 3 and this is accurate. Beauty of a gun. I have an older Walnut Field chambered in 20 gauge 3". Just be sure that it fits you.

There is or was a used 1187 on the EE lastnight or at least there was one around midnight West Coast time.
With what ever choice in firearm you make consider the Wolf Springs for your new firearm.

I bought an SX3 two months ago. I had previously owned a Beretta 391 Gold Sporting.

To say that I am pleased with the SX3 would be an understatement, I love it. The Gun fits me well, recoil is almost nonexistant & cleaning is easy. The gas system does not get very dirty & most of the powder fouling & carbon just wipe off.

I would suggest that if the gun fits you, buy it.

I bought an SX3 last month for shooting clays. I have only had it out once, but it worked well for me. Not much recoil. I was using a friend's Silver before, and it wasn't as comfortable for me. Cleaning was a breeze. I don't know the actual weights off hand, but the SX3 seems lighter to me. But checking them out in person and shouldering them if there is a store near you, is the best route.

A very minor issue I had, was when I brought it home and was assembling it. My husband was like a kid in a candy store as we had each got new shotguns that day. He was removing the Winchester sticker from the barrel, and it wasn't one of those easy remove no residue kind. So in his glorious impatience, some sticky stuff remained on the barrel. Nothing a little peanut butter couldn't get off though.
