I have tried searching online for this and have come up short, so maybe you guys can help me.

I see that savage offers their actions only for sale on their website. Are they the only company that does this or can I buy most actions from a company or through a dealer? I figured it would be possible to buy a new remington 700 action through a dealer. Am I wrong?

I see some actions come up on the EE every once in a while but most people want so much for them that I could buy a whole gun for the same price, shoot out the barrel and then use the action in a project.

AFAIK there are no dealers in Canada who offer new actions from Remington.

That's what most folk do, buy either a new or used 700, pull the bbl and stock, sell them off and go from there.

Remington does not sell actions. Only way to get one is to break a rifle.
In general, only the high end target and semi-custom actions are available as actions only.
Apart from the Savage target actions, AR type receivers are about the only ones generally sold.

Remington used to sell them too, you could order them from the Brownells catalogue. Sadly, they no longer do. - dan
I wonder why. I'd think they would sell a lot of new actions for custom work if they were available to the public instead of recirculating old guns for this. I'm thinkin' they are losing a lot of sales due to this policy.

Robertson sells Stillers. I bought one from him almost 2 years ago and the price was around the cost of a 700 plus truing.

Suggest you try Barry Jensen at Bits of Pieces here on the Wet Coast. He has some amazing machinery and is actually a schooled gunsmith. Great guy to deal with too and I love the accent.
