Does any one know if it's legal to buy air pistols or air rifles that shoot less than 500fps from the USA and have them shipped to Canada. There seems to be more models in the states.

They're not considered to be firearms on either side of the border. However, a lot of U.S. retailers won't ship to Canada anyway. There's very little, Stateside, that isn't available here. You looking at something in particular?

Why buy from the US when you can get what you are after here for the same or lower price? I bought a 46M recently and decided to just buy out of Canada as it was about the same cost as buying from the US (if you factor in the real total cost, including shipping and duty). Have you looked here http://airgunsource.com/ ? They are $450 CDN, but you don't have to pay duty and the shipping is probably less. And bear in mind that even though this is not a firearm Canada Customs has and does send them back on occasion instead of letting them through as they should. Airgunsource website says they are out of stock, but I would give them a call and see what the deal is, they are great to deal with.

I tried airgunsource and their out of stock, i've been looking in Canada and no one seems to have one in stock, would prefer to buy Canadian.

Thanks

Search for D&L airgun. They have it. Any purchases out of the US will incur no or little savings. There's still the exchange rate, duties, and ship and handling. Contrary to what sunray is telling you, chances of an airgun getting seized at the border is just as likely as a firearm. American side don't care, but CBSA does. They have to check if it complies with the laws up here and they'll charge you for that, too. Save yourself the hassle and forget about buying from the States. Also, AIRGUNS OVER 500 FPS ARE CONSIDERED FIREARMS BY CANADIAN LAW AND ARE TREATED AS FIREARMS.

Hi Just checked with CFP at 1800 731 4000 and yes it is legal to import air pistols from the states as they do not look like a replica firearm and they are same model they sell up in canada and less than 500 fps. There may be duty but CFP states it is a non firearm so it is no different than any other goods you bring up from the states. They will not be seized at the border like you stated and, like my original email states less than 500fps
It is nice to know if your shopping in the states (150 km's from home). D&L is 3000km's or miles away. If your not sure if the model you want to bring up is legal give CFP a quick call they were friendly and very help full.

Actually airhead, most of my comment was directed at sunray. I should have split it up. Yes, if it's under 500 fps, it'll come in easier, but like you stated, it has to be same model and under 500fps. Just hope the guy at the border knows his stuff. But now that I reread both your statements, you're both talking about under 500fps. So disregard my comments on this thread :p

I have had a number of airguns shipped up from the states. The prices are much lower when buying used items, even after shipping, because there is a much larger market down there.

Also, I've noticed that no duty appears to have been charged on the airguns I have had shipped to me - I speculate that when they pull it out of the general mail stream to be examined by the prohibited importations unit it somehow bypasses the process where duty is applied.

If you are concerned that an airgun is a replica you can call canada customs and ask to speak with the prohibited importations unit. Ask them to look the item up in the firearms reference table and they can tell you whether it is valid for import. Don't waste your time talking to the general customer service people.

If a co2 gun is rated at 500, then is that over the fps allowed in Canada? Or is it right on the max amount? If the co2 gun was shipped in a box that didnt say the fps amount, would they actually check at customs or would they probably just keep it???
