Buying aLever Action

I'm amazed that the OP didn't get flamed for the scoped lever. I hold my breath every time I post a pic of mine.

lol I agree, I'm not sure about the scope either. I got it because It was only $30 more for a factory mounted scope model which also gave me the rail, a sling and a hammer spur. To good to pass up the deal. I'll most likely end up taking the scope off but if I ever need it for hunting, its there.

Sorry to hear that you have had bad luck... I absolutely love my six Henry rifles and I have friends with a dozen or so more... none of us have had any problems whatsoever.

The only thing I can figure is that like the 2010/2011 Marlins, there must have been a bad batch. The last one with the ghost ring rig was not bad, just limited as to what I could do with the front sight to make it more cowboy friendly.

I looked all over the LM for a used one but there were none I could by in person. Im wandering if the Chilliwack Show had a reasonably priced selection I missed out on.

I saw a pretty nice looking JM stamped 336 at Chilliwack in the morning stickered at around $500. Just about bought it on the spot but decided to walk around and see what else was there. On my second go-round it had sold. That was the only newish marlin lever 30-30 I saw at the whole show.

Range report....Great!!!

Shot 60 rds. Two kinds of Winchester and a box of federal. Everything fed, cycled and fired without a hitch. It took me a while to get "close" to the target about 75 yards away. It was my first time sighting in a rifle and freehand too. The fit and finish is really, really nice on this rifle. Only thing is that the magazine door got scratched from loading in the rounds pretty quick, I thought it'd be a bit more durable. Overall...pure joy.

Scratching the magazine port is called "wearing the new off of it".
I have a mid seventies 336 and every now and again I feel bad for
some on here looking for a sweet gal and I aim to offer her up.
I get her out and wipe her down and ask her if she would like a new
home.
She trembles. So I rub her again and promise to go shooting soon.
They are that nice.
Every time a deal comes up, I snap it up even if they need tlc.
Always someone in the moose camp drewling for one.
They are that great of a scabbard rifle.
Get Del to give you a deal on some used dies as I know they are his shelf.
His reloading supplies are priced better than the big box too.

Holy Chit, I just noticed the Marlin name on the scope side......really?

That is a beautiful looking shooter. I just can't get my head around a safety on a lever. That was Marlin's and Winchesters biggest mistake. My Marlin is an old one. No safety. Just the hammer. Accurate as most bolt guns and the action is as smooth as butter.

How come it is not smoothly polished and shiney? It does not look like blue, looks like paint. My 2005 336 was smooth and shiney and deeply blued. I recently handled one with this matte finish and I was not impressed. The big loop model looked more refined, this 336 with matte finish really looked cheap. Marlin really cheaps out on the finish these days. But as long as it shoots reliably and accurately, this does look like a perfect hunting rig that would not make you cry if you scratched it in the field.

I have to agree, Id rather have it nicely blued then this matte, bead blasted coating. I guess another example of you get what you pay for. The price is so low that something had to give. Im only glad its the finish and not the reliability and fit they decided to sacrifice. I've noticed that even after the one session, some parts are already getting smoother and shinier from handling it. With time perhaps, it will ware in and look nice.
