so is buying ammo now a good investment?

seems like it's always going up...and it doesn't expire.
i hardly ever see good stuff up on ee, so should be easy to re sell.

or
because of the hording last year and the weak dollar are prices just temporarily high?
has ammo ever gone down over time in the past?

there is also the risk of the libs doing something weird.

i guess a good way to do it is to dollar cost avg each month.

i'm looking to buy
223, 308, 44 mag, 45 and 9.

thanks

The risk I have always worried about is a lead ban or some form of it. Not saying don't stash some but within reason
I got stuck with a ton of useless shotgun shells when they put the mandatory non tox for migratory bird hunting some years back
Ammo is not an investment
Just my opinion from someone that has been hording for 50 plus years
Cheers

As powders, primers, and most projectiles come from the US, I'd wait until the dollar is better. Unless it looks like Clinton might get in, in which case expending a line of credit on ammo might be a good investment. If another Dem gets in (can't see how), you won't be able to find a shipment coming north, as everyone down there will be stacking deep.

Clinton will get in if Trump gets the nod..imo..

Makes no sense to me... sure buy some extra when its on sale or whatever, stock up on your favourite rounds or .22 as its cheap, light, and doesn't take up much space.

Buying it as an investment makes no sense to me for a variety of reasons. You would be better off just sticking your extra money in a high interest savings account, buying land, or gold coins lol.

$400 for 1600 rounds of Norinco 5.56 was a pretty good deal. I only have 30,000 rounds left! ;)

Value increased by at least 25% in a few years... not terrible investment!

Rrrrrrrright ..... hand your money over to a bank these days .. biggest crooks on the planet.

Ammo=precious metals
brass topped with lead filled with magic powder
You have money to pay for things that you want or need. I need as much as I can get. And want even more.

I donno... I do my own investing in the stock market... I have done fairly well I guess... made around 3K this year, no I'm not a millionaire, but hey, I did very little for that 3K. Other investments I have are simple 2% fixed no risk, not making money there, just breaking even on inflation, keeping the money safe and building it for a future land purchase. It's just my method, I like it, seems to be working for me. I'm far from rich but I like playing it like a game, almost a side hobby.

If you want a garage full of ammo go for it lol. Seems like the "poor mans" investment to me... Like do you buy $5000 worth of .22 ammo and sell it all in 5 years for $6000? To who and how? What if the ammo is damaged? What if you get robbed? Ammo costs can come down too right? Do you need a whole room for ammo storage? Just my two cents.

Oh, and I cant say I disagree that the banks ARE crooks. True.

I think so too.

Trump must be secretly on the Dem payroll... or he just likes trolling a whole country. Like the last Ontario election, if the Right can't put a proper candidate in, Left will do it again (plus, I'm sure Hillary will win a ton of female votes, just because).

I am buying 12g cheaper now than the old boxes my dad has that still have the stickers on them from LaBarrons from 30(?) years ago.

Personally, I think the price of ammo is going to come down again. Rimfire in particular.

I wouldn't say its an investment. YMMV.

Not a terrible investment as previously stated but it's a small market and need local buyers as shipping would surely make it a deal breaker. I have considered selling off some of mine but most of the time it's just not worth it

When I played the gold game it was easy to ship and easy to buy and sell

Ammo can be an investment, but you need to choose very wisely.

Anyone who stocked up on 22 10 years ago probably has no complaints about the 100 to 200 % profit they made ( tax free ). Same goes for people who stocked up on 308 at 25-30 cents a round last year.

Two things to remember. Metal prices are in the toilet and still going down atm. The ammo you're buying now was probably made from components that were more expensive than what they cost today. The other thing is that there aren't many bargains to be had atm. Close to zip 308 below 45 or 50 cents atm. Not much bargain 223 to be had. Same for 45. Bargain 44 has never existed so don't bother looking. Cheap 9 is no big deal. Over priced 22 is a risky purchase.

I don't see it being an investment, once you use it its gone. Buying it cheap if your lucky enough to buy it right is good, but I wouldn't bank on it. I'm almost out of 9mm that I bought at $110.00 per thousand, I wish I'd bought more of that.
