I'm looking to order around 300 rounds of UMC .223 FMJ. Does anyone have an idea of what the shipping would be on this from SIR. They said they can't give me a quote until an order is completed, all I am looking for is a close estimate.

As well, could anyone tell me if they know of a place that has some commercial 55gr FMJ .223 that is reasonably priced and willing to ship. (UMC, American Eagle, winchester?)

When I lived in Thompson I had ammo from SIR shipped all the time via greygoose bus. Dunno if they still ship ammo, but it was quite reasonable at the time.

They had a really good deal on Federal .30-06 a little more than a year ago, so I scooped 1000 rounds.

The shipping came by a carrier (I can't remember who) and it wasn't too bad. I think it was CanPar or DHL.

As long as you are getting a deal on the ammo, it is usually worth it.

I worked it out that I was paying less than I could have bought it locally, and I even compared it to how much it would have cost in the States (just for giggles.)

They beat everyone, the only thing that pissed me off was that I ordered online according to the price that they listed. Then they sent me a letter and called me, telling me they were out of stock and would have to charge me more when their next shipment came in.

It choked me I had to pay more than the advertised price, but I still got a better deal than anywhere else offered.

I just looked at thier order sheet and they state that they will advise you of charges prior to shipping. DHL will probably be the courier but they arrange the shipment. Courier costs are your baby. Even Grey Goose will not carry ammo nor guns. been there... tried it. If you want the product, you have to pay to get it.You may as well order a grand, as in the end it will be less per shell than trickling them in a few hundred at a time.

I just ordered some ammo from SIR last week, and looks like they charge shipping as a percentage of the purchase price, same as the way Cabelas does it. Orders up to $10 is $6.95 S&H, $10.01 to $25 is $8.95 S&H, $25.01 t0 $100 is $10.95 S&H, etc.

It's been a week and my credit card hasn't been charged yet and I haven't heard from them...so I'm starting to wonder if they have even processed my order yet. :( I bought a rifle from them a few months ago and that was quicker. If I had ordered this from Cabelas...they would have emailed me my tracking number the next day and my shipment would be almost at my box. Not only that...they actually have live people to talk to 24hrs a day 7 days a week...even though SIR was bought out by Cabelas, their customer service has a ways to go to catch up.

*EDIT: I just read the second page of my invoice where it states that ammunition is shipped via courier (Canpar), and therefore additional charges will apply...how much, I don't know. I guess this might be why my order hasn't been processed yet, so I guess I'm also in the dark on how much the total purchase price will be.

Thought I'd provide an update just in case you find it helpful.

Just got off the phone with Cabelas Canada customer service manager, and she was able to give me some insight on what's happened with the delays. First, both the manager and assistant manager of their Canadian warehouse were on holidays...this would just be bad practice. Because of this, shipping quotes requiring courier service were delayed.

Secondly, a computer software upgrade that scrambles credit card and PAL information so that the information stays confidential and is not revealed to customer service representatives didn't work properly. The credit card information remained scrambled and was not able to process properly.

She said that Cabelas Canada is in the middle of systems and process changes that will bring them up to the high standards of Cabelas USA. I told her that as a long time customer of Cabelas USA, I'm used to the high standards of their customer service.

So...I purchased 10 boxes of CCI .17 HMR ammunition (500 rounds) for $12.99/ea, and 2 boxes of CCI .22LR HP subsonic ammunition (100 rounds) for $5.99/ea, and after GST and UPS shipping it came to roughly $174. So...shipping courier for my small order cost roughly $23 or so, and will take a week to ship.

Considering that locally .17 HMR ammo retails for $19.99/ea, I still think I did okay. HTH.
