Can anyone who buys ammo in the USA help me out with a few questions.
1) Can a Canadian buy Ammo in New York State?
2) Can a Canadian bring it back over the border by him/herself?
3) when declared at customs, is there an amount to be concerned with? {100rds NP, 200rds and customs won't let it through?}
4) are there any permits required to be filled out and if so where does one get them {the permits}

Sorry if this has been here before. My "searchmandu" is busted.

Regards,

Plinker

So how does it work when you cross the border to go hunting or to compete? Can you buy it but not bring it across the border? Bring your own...?

Canada allows 5000 rounds to be brought. Uncle Sam wont let you take it without paperwork. New york is tight about selling ammo, I believe state Id needs to be shown.

Bringing ammo is covered with the ATF paperwork you get to bring guns into the US

You can bring ammo over to the US as long as it's listed on your Form 6. Sometime I've been checked...sometimes I haven't.
Any ammo left over at the end of your stay in the US must leave the US. So let's say you go down with 400 rounds and shoot only 100. You can safely leave with the remaining 300. The Canadians don't care where you got the ammo from, as long as you're below the max allowed.
You can buy ammo in the US, but it must stay in the US. I bought a whole whack of .223, .45ACP and .357 in NC this past fall and shot it all. Came back with the exact # of rounds I left Canada with.

That idiot Chretien, when he was PM, was asked by the Yanks if he wanted Canada to be exempt from those stupid ammo and gun parts regulations/restrictions, and he said no...so there's another pita we can lay at the hands of the Liberals.
