Buying Ammo through the mail

Anyone ever buy ammo through mail order? I am just wondering what the extra cost is since they consider it "dangerous goods".
 
"...told by my local shop..." Most local shop guys don't have a clue what is and isn't DG. They want you to buy from them.
Like CanAm says, ammo is heavy. That's what adds to the shipping costs. Shipping costs are calculated based on the weight and size of the item being shipped. However, unless I'm confused, there's no sending ammo via Canada Post anyway.

I ordered 1500 rds. of .45ACP from P & D in Edmonton....shipped to me via DHL (loomis) to Vanc. Island for a fee of about $45......and you cannot send ammo via Canada Post..
I recommend P & D....

Shipments of UN0012, Class 1.4S with a net explosive quantity (powder) of less that 25Kg are exempt from the transport of DG act restrictions placed on other explosives, thus are not subject to DG surcharges from shipping companies.
