I've been on and off looking around for an Arisaka Type 99, been seeing a bunch of them popping up on Gunbrokers, but the import fee tends to make them fairly pricey. Does anyone have an experience buying them? In particular in BC?

Also does anyone have any suggestions of local gun shops I could check out in the Greater Vancouver Area that might have said gun?

Yeah, requested and still waiting. It was one of the reasons I was pointed to this forum in the first place, applied for my license at the start of January, logged into the rcmp website yesterday and found out that I've been issued my PAL so I figured it would be a good idea to start figuring out what was the first gun I wanted to buy.

Excellent. I assume the rifle speaks to your heritage>?(forgive the assumption) I've wanted one for quite some time, with MUM, I haven't been quick enough on the purchase though....

I had a very nice (almost excellent condition) Hiroshima made Toyo Kogyo Type 99 vet bring back one with a mirror bore, correct bayonet and intact MUM. I sold it here on the EE 2 years ago, not that many wanted to pay my asking price of $500 for it and bayonet at the time.

A lot here were trying to low ball me for about $350 for it at the time.

Damn, makes me wish I had gotten my license two years ago...

I bought my type 99 long rifle on GB and imported it. No regrets. Best bolt action of WW2 imho. Look for Sreisel he always has lots of arisakas. I've bought quite a bit through him all great deals.

Does this one tickle your fancy? Its Siamese but same thing only different... It is on the EE right now for $375 The guy is in Ontario

I saw that one, tempting, but I think I want to hold out just a little longer :)

(Partially because I'm hoping for a Type 99, partially because I need to keep an eye on my finances this month)

The Siamese type 66 is very similar to the type 38 Arisaka, but dimensionally different. They shoot an 8x52R round. Don't frown on a type 99 that has had the mum ground, it's part of the history of WWII.

Sreisel is definitely one seller to AVOID.

Just read the post and "The Title" about him below.
