Buying Brass on EBay

Do you mean from the US EBay? Well, officially no, as it is an ammunition/reloading component. Unofficially, quite a few people down South will mail it to you, as long as you acknowledge that it may never arrive.
 
Thanks for the info guys. Dave, I agree with you on buying locally, but just signed up on Ebay US because I saw a listing for 340 WBY brass and it was going alot cheaper than around here. I chickend out though and never put in a bid. I dont know about the whole Ebay thing. How do you know you will get what they say are selling?

if the brass is caught by US customs they will seize it. it is illegal to ship any ammunaiton part to canada without an export permit. Canada customs could care less. for as long as you pay your GST they are happy. it is a crap shot, however if the brass is caught by US customs you go on their #### list for two years.

Any and all Reloading components require a U.S. Export licence to be legally exported outside of the U.S. Certain components such as .50 BMG components are prohibited from being exported outside the U.S.

Canada Customs doesn't care as long as items are truthfully declared, and taxes /duty are paid.

However without an Export permit, the seller can be in for jail time and hefty fines for shipping reloading components out of the U.S.The buyer will have his goods seized and his name/address will be flagged by U.S. customs.

The CGN policy is that the import/export laws of BOTH the U.S. & Canada MUST be followed if posting inof on the CGN site.Any posts that do not meet this ctriteris will be deleted without warning or notice.

I know in the past i have recived empty brass off ebay but didnt think anything about it, just lucky i guess :D

Yup. Ever since 9/11, the U.S. has really tightened up on the export controls inregards to firearms,parts,optics, ammo & reloading component.

Alberta Hunter: I have ordered and received about 8/8 batches of MT brass and projectiles. I don't believe export license is req'd for us shipments under $100. Shipments under $20 can. seem to avoid can customs$5 and gst pst.Good luck and avoid UPS shipping.
 
Like Bearman said, check on Ebay Canada, no customs or shipping problems. I've bought quite a few things from brass to parts there and have had no problems. Actually, some of the sellers there are board members here.

An export licence is required if the value is twenty-five cents.

I've bought brass from Ebay in the US and had no problem getting it. Some sellers won't send to Canada, some will. I think it has to do with some US federal law, non-residents visiting the USA can't buy cartridge components.
I bought 500 45ACP brass from an Ebay seller, they arrived no problem but buddy packed them by wrapping the loose cases with packing tape. The packing tape left a residue in the cases ,after they came out of the tumbler the tape residue became a thick black tar like gunk that had to be scraped off with a knife. Ended up chucking out the works, bummer. Xray

If the cases were shipped to you without a U.S. export permit (doesn't matter where you got the cases), the seller has violated U.S. law and could suffer sever punishment if caught.You can also have your name & info flagged that was on the package by the U.S .authorities.

AND if you are posting here you recieved componants with U.S .law being violated, you have also violated CGN policy regarding U.S. exports.:eek:

Q4. I want to buy parts in the US for my firearm and import them into Canada.
A4. The US controls on the export of firearms extends to parts also. For small orders worth less than US$100.00 the US Department of State allows an exemption from the export licence. This exemption, however, does not cover ‘significant’ parts which includes; barrels, slides, cylinders, bolts, frames and receivers. It should be noted that there is no equivalent exemption offered by the Department of Commerce for shotgun parts. Further, there is no exemption for ammunition or ammunition components. Canadian importers should follow the procedure outlined in Q1 (above) to import parts not exempted.
