I've done it in the past. Never had a problem. Get a pic of the actual dies first before committing to see if there are rust etc on it esp around the mouth and inside of the die. Worst case, most die makers have pretty solid warranties. Not sure if they would cover a rusted up die. I tend to stay away from the really old ones. You know 'em when you see 'em.
Never had any issues buying dies off the EE. As mentioned already, most manufacturers have pretty good support for their product if there is any kind of defect or problem aside from maybe rust. Unless someone is careless and runs a bunch of really dirty brass or attempts to size steel cases I don't see many ways to possibly mess them up other than maybe busting a decapping pin which is easily replaced in most cases. If you are worried try to get some pics of the inside of the die as long as it is smooth and shiny they should be good to go. Exterior of the die is mostly cosmetic as long as threads aren't screwed to the point they won't thread in/out of a press or lock ring but never seen that myself.
I'd have no problem buying dies off the EE but have found people are asking almost new prices, then with shipping, it's the same price or $5 difference to go buy a new set.
I'm also very particular with my stuff and I know there are a lot of people on here who don't necessarily look after stuff as well as I do.
I've bought and been given a few sets of used dies. Twice now I've had used sizing dies that had a burr or galling in them or some sort of embedded grit that rendered the sizing die useless when it produced a nasty scratch in the brass. So I tend to not buy used dies unless they are very cheap just because I might only be buying a partial set if it turns out that the sizing die is pooched.
I have purchased used dies on the EE. One had an internal scratch on the sizing die and was not useable. Unfortunately I had purchased it months before use and could not remember who I had purchased it from. All the others have been fine. No worries from me about purchasing used dies. I will just check them over as soon as I get them.
Have you checked wholesale sports? Last store I was at had more stuck than I have ever seen before! Maybe they would also have some in their warehouse for online orders?
