Buying first AR soon

So Ive deciced to buy an AR soon. I just want something stock, carry handle or BUIS sights, fixed or coollapsing stock, ready to go and not too expensive. Ive been looking at some Armalites, S&W and some Stags. How do these rifles compare in quality? Are they all similiar in those terms? Any other ideas? I really dont want to buy a Norinco.
 
Norinco are excellent product for the price and are pretty much exactly the configuration you are asking for. I understand if you just don't want them but don't dismiss them as junk because they are not.
 
I had a flip up sight on my first AR. It kept on falling apart. So I got a Carry handle sight.

My recommended brands: STAG, LMT, RRA...

There must be a sticky on this somewhere.

It's awesome. My next podcast will be an episode with NEA recorded live at Target Sports. I got to shoot three of their guns plus an LMT with a NEA suppressor on it. These are very high quality guns. For the money I doubt you will find anything better. The only thing you gan get for less is the Norinco and it does not even come close in quality.

What about barrel lengths? I wouldnt want anything too long ot too short, so no 24" or no 10.5" Whats a happy medium? 14.5? 16? 18?
 
The NEA has 14.5" model which I got to shoot last Sunday. Any thread that mentions Norinco in the same league as NEA is laughable. The fit and finish on these AR's are impressive. Nothing against Norinco but its not even close.
 
According to some of these new threads there appears to be a lot of new guys interested in the AR scene...and...that's good to see. I'm one of them! Been a long range precision bolt gun nut for years and now I need a semi-auto to shred up some close range targets. Looking seriously at LMT, Stag, and Noveske. Leaning towards LMT....that is unless I shouldn't be...;).

I wasn't comparing Norinco to NEA. The OP gave a list of features he's looking for and said it needs to be cheap and ready to go. I simply told him not to dismiss Norinco as a bad gun because it sounds exactly like what he want's. He can buy whatever he likes but people are quick to dismiss good options because of a name when in fact for the intended purpose, the gun is exactly what they need.
 
Its not that I have anything against Norinco, just that if I can get a nice, used AR off the EE for 1 grand shipped, that makes more sense to me than paying 700$ plus tax and shipping for a Norinco. Your right thought, it does come set up the way I want.
 
You will find plenty of options in the 1k range and definetly look at the NEA wich you can have NEW for 1k, made in Canada, lifetime warranty even on the barrels. They are new so time will tell if they are worth it but from first glance and reports they are.
 
norinco 10.5" for me - have shot the 14.5" and have seen a lot at the range, almost everyone said they are happy with theirs! reliable, accurate and affordable - win win win situation :)
