Buying first powder?

Heading out today to buy some powder, I'm going to be reloading .45 acp for my Jericho 941 and my Thureon Defence carbine.

I've done some reading and narrowed my choices to either Titegroup or Unique, both are listed in my manuals and are available at a local store.

Just hoping to get some thoughts and opinions on these. Thanks, Andrew.
 
The low pressures in .45 ACP will result in Titegroup not burning completely so it too will be dirty. 700x is the way to go.
 
Unique is a flake powder that does not meter well in some throwers. TiteGroup would be the better of these two. I load 4.5 gr of TG under a 200 gr lead SWC for a number of 1911s, and it is accurate. TiteGroup is a shotgun powder and they run at quite a bit lower pressure than a 1911.
 
Probably not the best choice for a new re-loader due to its low charge weight / volume in a 45 ACP allowing for doubles but; when you get tired of dirty & difficult to meter powders, switch to Vv N320.

I hear ya, but I'm going to be using an RCBS Chargemaster and seating a bullet while a new powder charge is dispensed, I'm not going to have a loading block with 50 charged cases sitting there begging for a double charge.
 
as long as you aren't using it in a progressive powder feeder, there won't be issue. it meters' terribly at low charge weights.

You should be alright with that system. Nothing wrong with loading blocks really either. They're quite easy to verify. Progressive presses can be a problem if you're not terribly diligent or have an auto-check in your system like the RCBS "Lockout" die. I'm no voice in the wilderness concerning the Vihtavuori powders. Guys are reluctant at first because of the price but when most folks try them, the reviews are glowing. Just as an experiment, for your own edification, try some of that Unique or a batch of HS-6 and then switch to N350 (the N37 gets great reviews too). You'll see what I mean.
 
the new Unique is not as dirty anymore. It will burn cleaner in stouter loads though. It is consistent and more foregiving than TG. I actually load lots of of 9x19 with unique.
TG is a great powder too. It meters great but it will get lost in a large 45 case. Watch out for double loads!!!!Just follow your loading manual and you'll be fine.
