buying guns in the US

im sure this came up before but im asking anyways!

i was in NY state yesterday and i went to a few gun shops looking to purchase a rifle, but no one can sell a firearm....

one store said they can only sell to NY and Pennsylvanian residents and another said they don't carry a international license to sell firearms.

got to the boarder and i asked about it and not a single person there could give me a answer.

can anyone help me on this plz?!?!

There is no issue with importing a firearm and Canada Customs, it's all about the U.S. side of things. The issue lies with the seller and that person, or business, is hobbled by their state as well as federal law. I think most businesses have to submit all gun buyers to a NICS check (similar to our Registry check). A private citizen does not have to submit the buyer to any checks, but a non-citizen cannot be in possession of a firearm, or ammunition for that matter, in the U.S. unless they have the proper BATF forms.
Best to use an importer/exporter.
 
As a non resident of the US you are not allowed to purchase firearms or ammunition within the US. You are also not allowed to possess firearms or ammunition within the US without proper import/export paperwork in place first.

No one within the US can export firearms or ammunition without import/export licensing in place.
 
Don't bother with prophet river.

There is a new business open that has locations in Canada and the US, and is likely going to create some real waves around here.

They sell you guns at their US retail price, and charge $100 to import them for you, and in far less time than any other such service out there!

I'm sure if they don't have it they can get it.
 
Not to stir the pot or such, but a close friend of mine thinks he can bring up a firearm from down south using the proper
paper work.
I have tried to explain to him that it can't be done without a whole bunch of issues.
He owns property down south and his father is a U.S. of A. citizen.
It would be curious to see how this one pans out.

FACs have been expired for many years. That alone makes me wonder about them. Meanwhile I just purchased another shotgun that Prophet River is importing for me.
 
You can buy as many guns as you want in the US.

You just can't "take possession" of them.

If you were in NY you should have gone to BGC.
They sell guns to us cannucks on a routine basis...

For a fee of course but it's easy.

You actually know someone who has successfully used them yet? Or are you just shillin for them?

Myself I'll give my $$$ to Clay,who's been used by many members on here to import.
 
I bought two shotguns from The Buffalo Gun Center, they did the paperwork & I registered them in Canada. (Registry was still alive at the time...)

So, if you were in NY state, you could do the same as I did. Only issue with BCG is that you have to go down to the store & cross the boarder with them. They give you the gun on the Canadian side, you go into CBSA & show them your paperwork, pay taxes etc & you are on your way...

From the Prophet River site.

Our fee is $250 for one rifle or handgun, $200 for a second, and $150 for each additional. Shotgun rates are $195 for one and $150 for each additional. We can also bring in smaller items such as scopes for $25 and various parts for $50 a piece. Clients will also be required to pay 5% GST on the purchase price and, if the firearm is not made in North America, pay up to 7% duty. There will also be shipping charges from Lloydminster Alberta, to the client. This tends to range from $20 to $35 for a single firearm.

I too have been looking south of the border, for another cheap muzzleloader. Everybody agrees that Canada has no issue with Canadians importing legal guns if they (the person) hold the proper permit. Here's what I don't understand. I thought that blackpowder guns were considered 'non-guns' in the U.S. , and if that is the case Why can't Canadians purchase and exit the country with a 'non-gun'???? Shouldn't this be a non-issue?

I think you can but you should always call the us side first. I think it would be just as cheap to buy the gun in Canada. The only muzzleloader you can not bring in is one that can switch barrels into a centre fire. I would call someone in the us to confirm. I spoke to someone and that is what I was told. But to save 50 bucks it is not worth it.
 
It is easy to buy firearms from the USA! I have done it twice, without hassle; people want to make it seem like 'witchcraft' or something...

The process takes time though. If you see a rifle in the USA (Eg: Cabelas where I bought both of mine), simply contact the store selling it, plus get a company that has a US FFL (Federal firearms license) to import it for you. You've got to provide proof that you are eligible to buy firearms; your Canadian issued FAC.
Let the importer know what rifle or shotgun you're interested in buying and they do the rest.

I used Questar for my first purchase and Prophet River for the second. Both purchases took about 6 months to complete all the red tape, but were hassle free. Excellent service from both importers.

I think I'll stick to Melissa and Clay at Prophet River for now too.
