buying guns in the US

I've imported through Sans-Nom Inc., David Gadbois, super nice guy to deal with and his fees are very reasonable.

This is very interesting because as far as firearms go you can import them yourself, you just need to get the proper forms from the ATF website. I was speaking to a U.S. customs and protection officer who told me that if I was just doing it for one sort of "off the shelf" rifle it wasn't really worth it given the crapload of paperwork involved. I have been bringing in firearms accessories across the border according to what is allowed and that as even sparked debate. The same customs officer told me that any item that is intrinsic to the operation of the firearm can not be exported from the U.S. w/o the proper paperwork. I asked him about scopes, reloading equipment and the like. He advised me that I could be in possession of all of these items as long as I didn't bring in powder or bullets (!?). When I shared this with some of the guys from my hunting group I was told that being in possession of a scope was not a good idea. I thought that the reloading equipment was the dodgy stuff so I called the ATF, Customs and border protection and the State Department and was told that all the equipment I wanted was ok. I didn't ask about the scope. Suffice to say that I have it and it's awesome. Does anyone have any information about possessing peripherals?

Buy the gun have it sent to a FFL dealer that exports. Get a Import Certificate (did mine Friday emailed to me today) send this with a end user statement ( what you are using it for) and a invoice both in PFD format. Email to the Exporter. He gets the Export permit ( around $250) ships it to you. Include you PAL number on the invoice.

I too have been looking south of the border, for another cheap muzzleloader. Everybody agrees that Canada has no issue with Canadians importing legal guns if they (the person) hold the proper permit. Here's what I don't understand. I thought that blackpowder guns were considered 'non-guns' in the U.S. , and if that is the case Why can't Canadians purchase and exit the country with a 'non-gun'???? Shouldn't this be a non-issue

Muzzleloaders are not considered a firearm in the US. One can export them at will. I just returned from AZ. with one Fri. Stopped at US customs to verify export of rifles imported with Form 6nia, and showed them the ML10. Not a problem. Since I was out the required 7 days I didn't have to pay any taxes at Canadian side. Show my PAL and gone.
