hi, im looking to buy some hunting land up by turtel lake, sk. this is not an ad but i just need to ask a few questions. how do i go about say buying a quarter section? what can i expect to pay per acre? thanks for your input.

Not entirely sure how it works out there, but you could probably start with the mls website. Maybe call a real estate agent, get some ideas of what's out there.

The land will vary hugely in price depending what it is (slough, lake front, quality of the farm land - the tax assessment will reflect this, amount of bush, creeks, old building site, etc). Last quarter that I bought between Hague and Rosthern went for $350,000 with the farmer still having the rights to farm most of it. A bush quarter will be substantially cheaper.

If you live anywhere nearby, take some time and tour the area. Check with the local real estate people. Often, word-of-mouth will get results. When I got transferred to a small town in SE Sask., my wife and I went to the local cafe for lunch. I asked the waitress and her friend if they knew of any decent houses for rent. They directed me to a house that was just being painted inside by the owner, and we had a deal made before 1:30!!
