Hi Guys,

This might be a stupid question, dunno I'm knew.... Can I buy a rifle or a shotgun in the US and bring it back with me? Or have somoene ship it to me here?

You need to be a resident of a state for 3 months and possess a hunting license in order to legally buy a firearm as an non-immigrant alien in the US.

So no, you can't just buy it yourself.

You need an export permit approved by the State Department. I think you might need a Canadian import permit as well.

There was a thread on this a while ago, someone can link you to it.

Just use an organization like Questar, they can import it for you.

I heard They charge a bundle too, a very good friend of mine is a citizen, we were talking about guns today and he has some he wanted to get rid of so I said I would find out what our options are.

You can't legally buy any firearm or be in possession of firearms or ammo, Stateside, as a non-immigrant alien. If you go there with firearms to hunt or shoot in a match, you need ATF paperwork.
"...what our options are..." There's a sticky on the Legalese forum. Takes several months.

I just want to know what the procedure would be to get them here legaly, I read on other forums you can go to a gun store in Buffalo and get your gun then get the store to transfer it in your name and you pay like $100/gun, Keep in mind we are only talking hunting rifles, nothing exotic or prohibited.

1. Get an import permit - see CFAC website. Not needed to import but will be needed to get export permit. Will take 2 weeks or more.
2. Go purchase the rifle or shot gun from US vendor. Present import permit.
3. Vendor (if co-operative) applies to BATF for export permit. Probably a 6 week wait time.
4. Vendor ships firearm.
5. You pick up at customs and register.

Questar can do it for you. That is the quickest, easiest way.
