Met some dude on GlockTalk from Indiana who offered me a good deal on 4used 10-round Glock 17 mags. Any problems getting those into Canada?

Actually.. not to contradict you or anything DAR 701, but just received this PM from seller buddy:

I would need a US address to ship to. Read below, which is taken from a international gun dealer.

Can I bring guns, gun parts and ammunition back to Canada with me after a trip to the U.S.?

There is no simple list of what is or isn't covered... but most stuff requires export permits. There is an exemption (this applies to State Department controlled items not Department of Commerce) on SOME ITEMS if they have a wholesale value of less than $100 USD, but many items no longer qualify for this exemption (example: Magazines, magazine parts, trigger parts, barrels, etc. no longer qualify for the $100 exemption). I have seen where a $0.50 trigger component is deemed a necessary component of the operation of the firearm and therefore required an Export Permit
.

So now I'm a bit confused. I hope somebody who has actually ordered magazines from the states can clarify this a bit. :)

I've ordered quite a lot of 10-or-less mags from the U.S. and I have never had any problems with customs, but that has always been from a dealer of some kind. I know that when you order from Brownells, mags (like just about anything else that attaches itself to a firearm) comes on the "State Department Regulated" part of your invoice. Your seller is probably going to waffle anyway and not figure out the legalese of his end of it.

GLOCK 17 mags have got to be one of the most common and readily available gun parts in this country - and they are cheap compared to just about every other spare mag. Just order 'em from a Canadian dealer. In my experience, you will end up paying duty on your U.S. gun parts anyway - at which point deals start to vanish.

Ah ok ok, I think I understand. Good advice guys. The gentleman's a private seller, not licenced dealer of anykind. Although he has positive forum feedback, heck, even great ebay feedback but it's apparent I could save a hardtime jus ordering northside :D ... & better for the economy who knows.

I ordered a few 10 round mags for my Browning BDA pistol from Numrich Arms (Gun Parts Corp) a couple of months ago and there was no problem, according to them only high capacity mags are regulated now, also Canada has a $500 parts limit now.

As of April 1 2008, we will no longer accept export orders where the value of the parts exceeds $100 or that contain a restricted part, requiring an export license from the U.S. Department of State or an import license from the country of destination. (Note: Canada has a $500 parts limit)

are you sure its up to $500 now ?

can you direct me to a thread about this. or a link , not that i dont believe you, are there any other restrictions besides hi caps?

The quote is right off their web site, lots of restrictions but they are all listed here.

As far as I'm concerned if a company like Brownells will ship it it must be legal. They seem to be on top of the continuously changing US export laws.

Exactly, Brownells would not risk the huge amount of international sales they do.

I just received 5 Novak mags from them, total was just under $100. Mags are no problem as long as they are not high capacity and the toatal order is under $100 before taxes.

I saw that on the Numrich site earlier as well... and that was news to me. That's great if they are treating Canada differently than Syria now. Makes sense to me. The $100 limit was a ##### to work with.

I would call them and verify this, and ask them to send you a copy of this that shows Dept. Of State has approved this. Brownells is still at $100 and they have a section specifically for International Sales.
