Buying Mags from USA

Do you want to know the real ball breaker when it comes to Glock 21 magazines? It is easier to load 13 45acps into the hi-cap mag than 10 into the 10 rounder. Before our law changed, I forced 10 rounds into a G21 mag, let it sit for a couple weeks, unloaded it, and I attemped to reload them. It was a no go, the mags only wanted to take 8-9 rounds. Regards, Richard :D

Well I'm going to Las Vegas next week. Wanted to buy some high cap mags, take them apart, bring the springs and base plates in checked luggage, mail the mag bodies and put in a peice of wood to make it a 10.5 rounder. Just so I could load it easier. Could I do this with out trouble?

The High cap mag bodies are a prohibited item in Canada and there fore importing them will result in confiscation and possible investigation by both the CCRA and the RCMP.
I also have the same problem with my mags but have found that tuning the spring helps a lot but I sure hope that one of the many things that gets tossed is the mag capicity restrictions

what if i was to insert a plug to make it 10.5 when in the states, i guess i should ask CFC, . Don't need any charges. so even the mag bodies no springs or baseplates prohib? I know guys that have done this with STI mags, just inserted a removable plug. I hope they scrap this mag cap as well. Seems all the criminals somehow all have high caps even though prohib. hmmm

Here are the Canada Customs regulations in regards to how the magazines are supposed to be blocked.

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/E/pub/cm/...html#appendixG

(4) A cartridge magazine described in subsection (1) that has been altered or re-manufactured so that it is not capable of containing more than five or ten cartridges, as the case may be, of the type for which it was originally designed is not a prohibited device as prescribed by that subsection if the modification to the magazine cannot be easily removed and the magazine cannot be easily further altered so that it is so capable of containing more than five or ten cartridges, as the case may be.

(5) For the purposes of subsection (4), altering or re-manufacturing a cartridge magazine includes

(a) the indentation of its casing by forging, casting, swaging or impressing;

(b) in the case of a cartridge magazine with a steel or aluminum casing, the insertion and attachment of a plug, sleeve, rod, pin, flange or similar device, made of steel or aluminum, as the case may be, or of a similar material, to the inner surface of its casing by welding, brazing or any other similar method; or

(c) in the case of a cartridge magazine with a casing made of a material other than steel or aluminum, the attachment of a plug, sleeve, rod, pin, flange or similar device, made of steel or of a material similar to that of the magazine casing, to the inner surface of its casing by welding, brazing or any other similar method or by applying a permanent adhesive substance, such as a cement or an epoxy or other glue.

SO far this year I have bought 7 10 round mags from Lone Wolf, 3 10 round mags from Glockmeister and 3 10 round mags from some orher place, I forget which, and had no problems. I also order gun parts all the time, springs, triggers, sights, etc., no problems. Just keep it under 100 bucks.

I bought a bunch of regular non threatening (recoil pad, mag release ext., vented handguard)stuff off ebay and it was turned back on the US side of the border. Other times, similar stuff has been received. Each time the total was under a 100. Go figure

I brought back 9 mags with me over X mas and I had no problems. When I went through customs she asked what did I am I bringing back. I said tools, magazines, cloths, dvds, and pants. She said ok how much is the total of your goods? 600ish? OK are the tools for business or personal? personal. OK have a nice day. Thanks. Someone searched my stuff though cuz the tools (gunsmithing tools) were moved and all the contents of my luggage were moved about and not packed as neatly as i had it. But I was never questioned.

I bought a holster on Ebay drove down to the states and picked it up at the PO box..... the customs guy gave me hell for it. Asked me about 1000 questions, searched my car, and made me pay tax on it and it was only 65. As long as your honest and dont try and hide anything they usually dont care. They just want the money. Im going to pick up DE recoil springs and maybe order 5 more mags too.

wow...sounds like everyone is getting a difference response from our customs. I hope that $100 dollar rule is still in effect.

well the end of the day is if the item gun related or not if its legal, OUR customs does NOT CARE, some officers might be a little more gung ho than others and take it upon themselves to ask 1000 questions unecessarily...

BUT i think the point should not be missed that the RULES/LAWS of concern are US ones. IF YOU GET CAUGHT /w GUN PARTS when leaving the US, you will be in a world of trouble. For me because i cross the line quite often for work or shopping, its not worth it for me to be on the record with them.... its not worth my hassel.

Far better of buying from Canada, I am sure the stores in Canada will be able to get stuff in without all the red tape, and customs problems. Better than going it alone and ending up with poor quality gear. :D :D Freedom ventures .com:D

How does that work if your a dual citizen of the US and Canada? Such as myself?

Exactly the same. You need an export cert for some items, and not others. Either talk to the Stae and Commerce depts or deal through a licensed exporter.

well i suppose even if they eventually find you are okay and let you off the hook, i'm sure it triggers something in the system... and just because you are a citizen doesn't mean that they can't give you a big hassel everytime you go back...

but as redleg above stated, as a citizen you can be in possession but that does not automatically give you export rights....
