Hello forumites,

So I'm after a Romanian contract VZ24 Mauser, and I found one on this website: http://psmilitaria.50megs.com/guns.html.
Seeing how this are milsurps (duh) I emailed the people there about what conditions the guns are in, with the hope of finding more
details. The reply was a cut'n'paste from their own website - to which I referred to in my email to them - with barely one or two extra words
(literally).
I never bought milsurps before, but generally sellers (site sponsors or not) were communicative and generally willing to give details about their stuff.
So my question is whether anybody had any experience with this vendor, and if this apparent lack of communication is indicative to their approach
to doing business.

Or, if you know of any other source for a Romanian contract VZ 24 Mauser in a condition similar to what is represented on http://psmilitaria.50megs.com/guns.html,
kindly please let me know.

thanks in advance for your opinions!

JP is on this site and is a great vender. I've bought from him several times and have always been more than pleased. His responses are short and to the point but trust me you will always get something better than what you were expecting. I'd take my money there before anywhere else.

I have bought a M38, 3 wks ago from Jean Plamondon, owner of the shop. He has been doing this for 30 yrs. He may seem rough around the edges. The shop takes calls in the morning. If you're looking for what you're used to as far as customer service goes, don't. I have heard he's good to deal with and I went on word of mouth. Then again, I called him, asked him his terms and that was it. I sent him funds and he sent the gun I asked for. I'd say my experience was fine. I got exactly what I wanted and knew the terms before I committed funds.

He's definitely to the point in his replies but I've bought 4 rifles from him and they've all come in better condition than I expected.

I bought a vz.24 from him earlier this year (not the Romanian) and it is basically immaculate.

Great service, I've bought various things there over the years. Most recent purchase they accommodated an unusual payment method I requested.

I bought four rifles from him, all came as described in his advertisements and were price fairly. The only downside is getting a money order ready and mailing it but otherwise I would certainly purchase from P&S again.

Jean is a top notch guy to deal with - He is hands down, the best milsurp dealer I've dealt with. He answers emails promptly and to the point regarding the condition of an item, and quite often can provide photos of specific areas of a rifle on request. He packages his merchandise discreetly and professionally. Pretty sure he has been in this game more years than I am old, so he doesn't enjoy time wasters... and I can't say I blame him.

I'm on my 3rd or 4th purchase with him and each time the rifles seem to get better! I agree the money order form of payment is slower, but I believe he does this to keep as little information on file about his customers for privacy reasons.

I've bought from jean and he is a great guy to deal even with money orders being rather slow but its worth the wait to see what you bought as it is usually in better condition then described.

OP, these people are telling you the truth but, not answering your question.

You need an education on milsurps and their condition.

I see that you're from PoCo.??

Well, you're in luck. Google HACS. Historical Arms Collectors Society.

They are based in the Lower Mainland and to be honest, are a bunch of great people.

They also run at least one show per month and a two day show in Chilliwack every spring.

Go to a couple of shows and look around.

If you're looking for cosmetically as well as mechanically new firearms, be prepared to pay in the thousand dollar or higher range for each piece.

Condition is everything of course and when you purchase from a dealer, you take the chance of his pick for you being good.

Remember, there are some folks that either live close to the dealers or buy a lot of firearms from the dealer and usually have first pick on the new arrivals. Some of those rifles can be near mint. Most are used and abused to some extent.

Go to the shows, take a look at what's being offered. You will likely find what you're looking for there. Not only that, you will be learning, saving shipping charges and the taxes.

When you access his website, go the menu and click on "ordering", when the link opens, click on "condition standards" right at the top of the page. His condition standards are similar to the NRA standards and will give you an idea what to expect.
I have dealt with him, and his firearms are in the conditions that he specifies, perhaps a bit better. However, If you're looking for a "sales pitch" he's not your guy.

Have to agree with everyone else here Jean is top notch to deal with and has perhaps the best selection of milsurps in Canada. I'm lucky enough to live close to his shop and have bougt at least half a dozen guns off of him as well as other bits and pieces, but he is a no nonsense guy. Trust his discription on his web page you wont be dissapointed.

Living close by, priceless! Maybe it's a good thing that I don't live too close, I'd be even more broke and probably divorced, lol!!

Thanks everyone for your responses, I'll submit to the collective wisdom and order a VZ24 from P&S.
In the spirit of CGN, will report back with pictures :)

Ya its true, being close to Jean's shop hasn't done my pocket book any good. Luckily his store hours conflict with my work hours so I really have to make an effort to go to his shope. Thank god to because every time I go I end end up spending way more than I ever planned on.
