Seems there is so much to know and so many options on the 1911.
A guy might want to read a book on the 1911 to have a chance of getting what he wants the 1st time.

Any good (no BS) info on the web?
 
:agree: a great resource. Also you'll find that there are no end of egos and opinions on what you "must" have on a 1911, mostly it's just good natured BS-ing. When you buy a 1911 the only "must have" is ammunition. Over time you'll figure out what works for you and what doesn't, but be warned these pistols are a bit like Harley's there is no limit to how many 'custom' parts are out there.
 
If your a handy person, I would suggest getting a stock 1911, then you can add your extras onto it as you go along reading about the different options available and which manufacturer you'd like to go with. I'm personaly a huge Norinco 1911 fan, for the price of their stock 1911 its just such a great deal. Another close one is the Tanfoglio 1911's. Their prices are also not bad.

If you'd rather get one that's already all done up, looking at around the 1200 - 1500$ range, they all come with the upgrade parts, you baicly just have to pick which one tickles you the most.

Oh yes, check out Armco's ad at the top of the page, I think Gunnar still has some STI Spartans - great deal for $799 from looking at what's on it, a lot of those parts would cost much more to install yourself.
 
personally i think its worth it to spend 1200$ or so on a 1911 and get one that is more finished than say a 500$ one.

im not the most experienced pistol shooter (far from it) but even i get better groups with a kimber vs a cheaper one. altho id like to try an armco tuned norc to see how it feels since i hear really good things about them
