buying my first atv.. HELP ! :)

The front tires in the pic are Mud Lights. The rear look like stock or Big Horn's.

Stock size is 24". Check and see if the front and rear are the same size. If they are not the same size Don't buy it as miss-matched tire size is hard on the drive line.

I think that it is missing the plastic cover over the recoil starter..not a big deal i guess. Also look at the metal rods inside the wheel wells, plasitc rivits and the underside of the machine. This will help tell if it was used hard.

One thing to check is the front tie rod ends (some had bad ones from factory)and front bearings, helps if you lift the front end up and wiggle the tire around.

I really like honda, I really like 350's with a winch, but 8000 km is a bit high for "cottage use"... I don't believe that..., but if you got it for $3000, it might be worth it. I agree to pass on this one... over the winter there'll be better deals come along. Or just offer the guy $2500, and see what he says.

My .02
let us know how it works out!

thanks guys... just got off the phone with him and he doesnt want to budge on the price.. lowest is 3500 .... im going to check out a couple dealers in the area and see if i can find something good on clearance...

thanks for all the tips you guys are great !!

You will always want more power though!

My advice is to buy something 500cc or bigger, as I find my machine is under powered for my liking. A definite plus is having the machine liquid cooled, and these bigger machines come with all the neat little options like 2wd or 4wd select. and diff lock, both are big helps when your in the mud. And you will be playing in mud.

Pass on this machine and find a better one.

x2!

I almost bought a 450 Kodiak, but opted for the 660. Boy am I glad!
Way smoother ride, got the independent rear, not beat up at the end of a day riding. Turbo is right about the extra features too. You waited this long for a quad... wait just a bit more and do it right!

I did what Cowboy suggested you do, I went to a few independant places asked some questions, and as far of reliability and fewer repairs are concerned, they all told me honda, but for performance I got mixed answers.

I just bought my first atv LAST YEAR.

After looking at used atv prices, around $6500, I decided to buy a brand new Suzuki Eiger $8000 out the door.

The milage is not very high for an ATV, BUT, unless you know how the last owner rode it, be weary.
Down here, a lot of the guys will run mud(over the seat mud) and sell it after a year or two before the mud had a chance to ruin the bike.

As for size, if you have never ridden an ATV before I would stick to 350 - 400cc. From personal experience, as a new rider, 400 cc'c can get you into trouble real fast. They are also lighter. Some of the new bikes are tipping the 1000lb mark. No way you will get that off of you if you roll it.

Buy new if you can. For your area got to ATV times http://www.atvtime.com/phpBB2/
I belive there are a few people from your area.
Good luck, besafe, have fun

Dont forget your orange jacket ;)

Congrats! 450 is plenty! My 06 Kodiak 450 (really 422cc) pulled 3 deer, and 2 guys up and out of some crazy coulees with no problems. Only had to winch out once because it was so steep.

My boss has the exact quad you bought. His sons have put that thing through hell and it has had no issues. You'll love it!
