Buying new xcr need help with caliber.

Yes I'm the guy who asked what's the best non restricted assault rifle. I've learned correct terminally since. I've spent a few weeks reading and I think I want to go with the xcr. If you think I should go with another one please tell me why.

Well I've been talking to wolverine and its offered in both 223 and 7.62 x 39. Which would you recommend? Is surplus ammo crap? I know it's really cheap. Any issues with this ammo? They would not be allowed for coyote hunting in Ontario would they? What you guys think about the two calibers. Thanks
 
I got the .223 & 6.8mm SPC barrels only. I thought about 7.62X39 but I'm really not interested in cleaning the gun inside & out after every time I shoot corrosive primed ammo. That's about all I have to offer.
 
As long as it's non-restricted you're good to go for coyote in most parts of Ontario. A few WMU's don't allow anything over a .270 however. Surplus ammo would not be allowed for any hunting because it's FMJ.
 
Ok well you already answered my question. Corrosive ammo and fmj. I didn't think of either. I clean my gun every time anyways. But I don't want to have to be careful of corrosive ammo. Also fmj I can't take the gun coyote hunting ever. 223 it is!
 
You don't have to shoot corrosive 7.62x39. The best thing about the XCR is its modularity. Buy the .223 now and down the road pick up a caliber conversion in either 7.62 or 6.8 if you feel the need to run something different. Takes under a minute to swap.
 
Not trying to change your mind, but wanted to make sure you knew you can also get cheep 7.62X39 ammo that is non-corrosive, and non-FMJ ammo is quite a bit more expensive for both in their respective calibers. If its just for coyotes then you are fine with .223. Just my $.02.
 
Honestly it's just a toy. 95% of the time it will be shooting at paper and potatoes lol don't ask. I do want the option to take it into woods for coyotes though.
 
Just don't know why you guys are so scare of corrosive ammo?

I don't use boiling water, I don't use windex and heck I don't usually clean my XCR's until few hours later until I finish my dinner.

I have a bucket Ed's red that I just dump my gas valve, piston, bolt and carrier in leave it there, squirt some Gunzilla down my barrel swab it a couple of time, by the time you are done with the barrel rest of the parts are pretty much ready, fish them out of the bucket wipe them down, a couple of squirts of Gunzilla and in they goes into the rifle. going on 4 years with my XCR rifle and 2 years with my pistol they haven't disintegrated yet. the bore and the piston is still shiny and rest of the rifle is anodize aluminum anyways.

IT ACTUALLY TOOK ME LONGER TO TYPE THIS POST THAN TO CLEAN CORROSIVE SALTS OUT OF MY XCR Laugh2

Hey glad your back and you didn't let the anti noob comments drive you away!

If you got your rpal here is a possible option, the xcr is a really nnice rifle, but anybody here will admit you pay a 1000 $ premium cause it's non restricted; ( same as the 600 $ premium on the rfb and a premium on the acr...) one thing you could do I buy a 700 $ cz 858 and a 1600 $ ar like a Daniel defense. You do that your still cheaper then the xcr!!!;)
 
I have a xcr in 7.62 and I shoot non corrosive norinco ammo and it is pretty sweet it's cheap to shoot and all I do is give a wipe down after shooting I would fully recommend it

Ya I want to stick non restricted. One I have it and two I want to be able to shoot the gun at the farm as the nearest range is 2 hours from me. A restricted weapon will do nothing but collect dust for me.

The models you mentioned I hate the cz. I've fired a friends, to me it's really cheaply made. Maybe I'm wrong I don't know but I wasn't a huge fan.

The Daniels I haven't seen. Now maybe ill open the floor to comments but I really don't want a plastic rifle. Is the Daniels mostly aluminum? Is the xcr? I have no good stores that carry this stuff so I'm doing this all online.

Ill change my mind if someone can convince me
 
Daniel defence is a ar(restricted), it is like the xcr its aluminum and polymer.

From your last post, you should look into the swiss arms, it feel the opposite of cheap and is expansive.

Your best bet is probably to try to plan range trip or meeting with fellow gun nutz to try and see what you like.
 
What does it come down to with 7.62x39 vs .223/5.56 cost per rd? Like plinking ammo comparison and hunting ammo comparison, as well.

I have also been debating this XCR calibre decision and am interested in the hive mind's opinion.


The 7.62 BOOMfactor (2m21s in that video i linked) is also very nice...

 
Tavor by far.
Same accuracy, more compact, and infinitely higher quality.
A battle proven rifle, vs. a consumer grade product with a dubious track record under hard use. Easy choice.

So your saying the 7.62 model can switch calibers? Ok apparently I didn't research sqwuat. Forget my last question I don't like the bull pup.

So stick to xcr here I don't want to side track more.

So if I buy 7.62 or 223 does it matter since calibers are easily changeable?
