If t'were me, I'd forget about the Ruger - too much cash for the quality and accuracy, plus the fact that the Mini-14 and 30 are firmly in the anti's sights for prohib status.
All the more reason to buy them, then. The only reason they didn't prohibit the Mini-14 back in the day was because there are so many of them out there. This is why I got into handguns and plan on buying an AR-15. The more guns out there, the less likely it is that the government will actually try anything; too many people ready to fight a ban, too costly to compensate them.
