Where can I buy animal pelts for a good price? I don't need any mounts or rugs I am just looking for something like a few Coyote pelts to hang on a wall, over a dresser, ect and even possibly a wolf pelt if its not to $$$.

Find a trapper, they will give you the best prices. some of the options i have come arcoss

1 buy the animal attached to the pelt and skin it yourself very low cost.
2 buy the animal attached to the pelt and get your own tax to do it.
3 buy the pelt of the trappers and get him to skin it (higher cost)

for myself i tried to get a timber wolf.

i was told 500 for skined off the animal
or 125 for the animal pelt on the animal and i could bring it to a tax or do it myself.

so there are ways to get your cost down

I prefer method number 4: Shoot the animal yourself, then skin it yourself.

Why should this thread be locked?

Well the only game I have ever "skinned" was a rabbit and I pretty much just yanked it out of its skin. I am thinking of buying on that is skinned and tanned professionally so it will look good. Why should this be locked?

Gander Mountain
Can't remember how mush they were going for but they had pelts for sale, if you're state side it might not be a bad place to check out

x2 on why should this thread be locked?

Yep x3 on the wtf should the thread be locked?

Since you're just looking for furs to put on things, small holes and the such are probably ok right? Holes, condition, quality of fur and all that effect price of furs on the fur market, but probably don't matter to you.

I'm busily tanning some of my older furs that were in the freezer... if you plan on trying to tan a skin, I would recommend practicing on stuff that's easy to get, because you're going to screw up a lot initially. I don't use any modern chemical tans either, so that makes it harder of course.

a hide can not be sold by a hunter or a trapper uless the hide is done up by a lic hide handeler most people can not even have in there posesion the hide of a fur barrer .and threads like this can get guys in trouble that do not know better .as a trapper i can not sell any hides or fur to some one who does not have a lic to posses hides DUTCH

The seller may have to pay a royalty fee to sell a furbearer pelt.
For me its like buying someone elses baseball trophy and putting it on my mantle, much prefer getting my own

Well I do want my own but I do not yet have the money/skills to hunt any thing worth taking its pelt from AND the skill to do it yet. I am a city boy whos the only hunter/shooter in the family...the last ones that did so did it in the 30's and 40's and sadly I never met them.

the p^roblem with the threads like this is thy are used by antis for fishing .not saying this one is . but it is something to be aware of . .you can by products that are done by a license tannery .a trapper can us the pelts he gets for his own us if he pâys a royalty and tans the hides him self her may not sell them .if he getts a tannery to do the hides thy will put a stamp on the hide and then it can be sold..it is just that a lot of people do not know the laws involved in fur handeling DUTCH

I'm going to have to stop reading your posts, they're beginning to make my head hurt;)

Its a simple royalty fee. You don't need a license to possess the pelt.
Most hunters would know, its in the hunting/trapping regs.

Im not sure how it is where you are located but in the ontario hunting regs it actually does state that you do need a special license to be in possession of a pelt of a fur bearing animal. This applies to both hunted animals and road killed animals. Until the angels fall not sure if you have a copy of the hunting regs but info can be found on pages 13, 28, and 74 regarding the license and what not. I know this is a little bit off of what you where asking but it pertains to it as well.

Royalty, Import, Export and Shipping
See General Regulations, page 28, for information on
import, export and shipping.
A royalty is payable to the province at the time that the
hunter/trapper obtains a licence to send pelts to a tanner
(for tanning or treating, including taxidermy), or a licence to
export a furbearing mammal.
Selling and Spoilage
See General Regulations, page 27, Game Wildlife and Parts
for information on selling and spoilage.

Soon you will need a licence to *hit. ;)

In BC
Every holder of a valid hunting licence
who lawfully kills a furbearing animal is
exempt from paying the prescribed royalty
fee unless he offers the pelt for sale. See
current Trapping Regulations for royalty fees.
Payment of a royalty fee is required only
upon the initial sale of the pelt. Furbearing
animals may only be hunted where an open
hunting season is declared.

That's BC though, shame that you would have to pay again even though you bought a license already.

The OP is in WMU 91,92, etc... its all year open for coyote. Shoot yourself, skin it, keep it, your good to go, no closed season. Licence is only for closed season. Check with the MNR if your in doubt. DO NOT buy, sell, and especially IMPORT from the USA. That case 2 years ago of the moose head going to the states cost the person a ton of money and fines and seizure.
