Any suggestions is appreciated!
I was looking at the Howa .223 model 1500 at Bass Pro.
Any comments on this rifle or alternatives for Coyote hunting?
Thanks!

many good choices

sounds like an entrance level rifle and should be OK. many Savage and Stevens rifles are also good entrance level rifles. Generally you have to go by budget and try to buy the best you can afford. if yo buy entance level and decide to move up later you not only have something that is hard to sell (all the entance level people already have them) but you have to replace it so are buying twice. If possible always buy intermediate quality and don't forget it is not only about the rifle for you will need good optics on it for best performance.

The Howa 1500 is a good entrance to exit rifle. I.e. you can buy one and it will last you the rest of your life, unless at some point you feel the need to spend more money on something to show that you had more money to spend. If you do decide to replace it for any reason it should not be difficult to sell as it has a good reputation and there are always people interested in picking up a good used rifle. The same is true of Savage rifles, including the Stevens 200. They are sound designs and built well.

Try to get to a shop that has them so you can handle them and discover which fits you best, as that will affect whether you can shoot a particular rifle well enough to realise its full potential accuracy.

I have a Weatherby Vanguard in .22-250, which I believe is the same gun as the Howa. Excellent rifle, very accurate, totally reliable. I'm not in love with the trigger and will probably swap it out soon, but many owners seem to have theirs adjusted to a crisp release and light weight.

I agree with The Tooner...the only reason to sell this rifle down the road would be if you just wanted to try something different later. At this point in the game, you'd be better off spending more money on optics, ammo, and reloading gear.

As others have suggested, try out as many different rifles as you can & chose the one that fits you the best. IMHO the .223 is a great varmint caliber. Many different flavors of factory ammo are available. Varmint rifles hold their value very well if the EE is any indication :nest:.

Not a lightweight, 9 lbs 8 oz as shown and definitely front heavy but for what I'm using it for it will almost always be resting on something.

Hopefully I can get out in a couple days and give some shooting feedback.

"...the same gun as the Howa..." Yep. Howa has been making Vanguards for Weatherby for eons.
"...for Coyote hunting..." Any .223 will be fine. Where you are matters though.

Just picked up the TC venture predator in .223. Haven't made it to the range yet but very impressed with it so far. Very affordable as well.
