Buying Second Hand, Handguns - What To Look For?

Hey Guys,

I am brand new to this world of guns. I would love some good points and tips on what to look for when buying a second hand handgun, I would love to know what would make it a good buy vs a poor buy. I am currently thinking of getting a Glock 17 Gen 4, and a CZ SP-01 Shadow as I would like to get into sport shooting.

Any basic and general things to look for when buying a second hand handgun, rifle or shotgun is appreciated. I did a search but didn't find any relative information.

For a glock, quick field strip, check all the parts are in one piece, if they are you are set.

For cz ask the cz guys there is some things to check on them

way to tell round count, barrel wear, mag well marks, barrel locking lug, inside the slide and wear on the mags.
If the gun had been used for competition, the speed reloading leave some little dents here are there are easy to see.

If you are buying online good photos help. If you are buying here, look at the Itrading record of the seller. Some sellers offer a no shoot 3 day inspection some don't, ask around.


If you never have had that specific firearm NEW, it is hard to tell. When you buy them new you can see how the wear and their wear marks are very particular for each model, and the wear marks repeat themselves.
So, you learn a lot about wear when you buy them new.
