So i have decided on one of these cool looking russian guns and i notice them for sale on many sites and stores. How can i tell what i am getting? Are these refurbished, used or new?

Is there a site or link that might have a description of the variations and what to look for?

I suggest you read the sticky on this forum,

Most russian SKS are refurb but somes are unissued too. Nothing wrong with a refurb, they are very nice and perfect if yo want to shoot them. If you want 1 to keep unfired, buy an unissued one. Weimajack on the EE forum have excellent refurb and also unissued SKS,they are hand selected, you cant go wrong also westrifle have unissued and refurb too. The are the 2 dealers i buy my SkS's from and i am perfectly satisfied. Just shop and choose:)

I have right now some collector's dream on hand, like IZHEVSK 1954 (Unrefurb) and Norinco Factory 26 (Inrefurb) and much more.

If you have /26\ the aren't on the ee yet. Only 316 guns. Pm sent.

I see you're not the only one with a /26\ on your radar. Don't worry, I'm not competition and won't be until next year, I'm all spent out for a while when it comes to guns.

They seem to not be as common as they should be.

I know Marstar had a few /26\, but they had the lovely late 70's early 80's plastic gas tube cover so I passed on one. Call them if you are good with one!!

Cheers

In 79 and 1980 factory 26 used a Bakelite top hand guard. It's a legit variant and is reflective of the last two years of production at 26. Don't discount them as an interesting variant. No other factories did this as far as is known.

Marstar has these 75$ sks, with the case of ammo, they are the chinese military version. I am not sure how they differ, yet, but i will read up on it.

They are the same rifles that you buy do 189 or 199with a case plus taxes. except your buying a case of ammo to go with it. I am considering doing it next time I need ammo, cause what the heck you can always use another Sks :). To central Saskatchewan it was going to cost $453, about 45 bucks shipping for the ammo, and about 28 shipping for the rifle. You would pay a bit more out to Vancouver though.

Well, cant thnik about shipping cost cause you pay that no matter what. I think its a great deal because you always need ammo.
My pal should be in my mail box any day now, so i think it will be my first purchase.
