By the time you get your $75 SKS and ammo [pinned barrel] you could have gotten a Russian refurb from Tradex and a case of ammo shipped free to your door.[screwed in barrel] or through in a little more and get collector grade.No such thing as a free lunch with shipping so brutal.My son has a factory /26\ SKS and it outshoots any other SKS I've shot. I handload 24gr of win 748 /123gr bullet or for bigger stuff .311-150gr Sierra and 21gr of IMR 4198.The 150gr load had 4 shots touching off the bags at 50 yards......Harold

Not all Chinese have a pinned barrel. And the early ones and the ones from /26\ were made on the same tools as the ones from Tula/Izzy.

You just gotta hunt more for an interesting Chinese rifle. Call Marstar and see what they have, they'll work with you to get you want you want.

My son's is threaded.What I read was blade bayonet model is threaded and spike type are pinned. I talked to Marstar yesterday and concluded the shipping cost out weighed "the sale".I'm aware of the SKS history and Russian tooling on early Chinese guns.Just prefer a threaded barrel over the later.The Chinese guns usually outshoot the Soviet made models for some reason.

I haven't considered the shipping cost... Any idea what it would be to Vancouver? I have been debating this purchase in my mind for some time, since i can get a russian model for 189$ and take it home same day.

As far as I'm aware pinned barrels are just as good as threaded barrels, unless you can show me different ?

I just bought a couple ammo cases of 7.62x39 from a sponsor in Manitoba, and each case from there to here in the Okanagan was $38 via Canpar, a Vancouverite said it cost him $68 .. so you might be better off shopping and buying locally . Reliable has at least a couple SKSs , and prob ammo.. I think I saw a couple spam cans there last weekend, $150(+ tax) each I believe. yeah, I should bought them too..

So i have decided on one of these cool looking russian guns and i notice them for sale on many sites and stores. How can i tell what i am getting? Are these refurbished, used or new?

Is there a site or link that might have a description of the variations and what to look for?

Just be warned, lots of people saying the ammo is actually corrosive and have had rusted guns after not being diligent and cleaning their guns after shooting. And although I don't shop at lever, I have heard their guns are still frankenpinned. Can anyone confirm this?

I have two pinned barrel Chinese. They shoot no better and no worse than my threaded Chinese, Russian, or Yugo SKS's. They are all good. The same thought is expressed on the SKSforum.

The bayonet style has no bearing on whether it will have a pinned barrel or not. It depends on the factory in which the gun was built. You have to look at the specific gun to be sure.
