Buying Stag 10 gi tommorow! What to look for?

It was a bit odd not to find any loctite at all on this build, but perhaps they do that on purpose so that people can change the setup...doesn't seem logical because most people just buy and shoot. I used heat resistant on the gas block, and just the blue on the handguard.
 
Mine was good to go, only 100 rounds so far but runs like a top.
1.25 inches with 168gr hornady over 43gr of varget. I think it will shoot MOA or better once I'm done.

Really liking this rifle. Anyone on the fence, just do it:)

That is interesting, I've got 168g loaded with 41gr varget here, also 180gr loaded with 40gr, 180gr loaded with 37gr of 4895 and 168gr loaded with 40gr of 4895 that I have done up for the next trip out. I had assumed this beast would prefer a little bit heavier bullet than the 150gr canpro. Now I'm exited to take it out again. :)

I do agree, if anyone's on the fence, these seem like really well built rifles, and considering they are trying to rebuild the company after some....troubles, I think they are succeeding.

Mine did great with MFS 140gr, but just okay with Barnaul 140gr? (MFS was 5 years old while Barnaul was new.)

Still need to get something above the 150gr for the next round of testing, once the new parts come in. CP seems to be holding things up.
 
Definitely realign gas block + torque check every screw and nut.

I have used a borescope to make sure everything was properly centered.

Other than that clean and lube. I've stroked the carrier a good 500 time watching tv and then cleaned and relubed the upper and bolt assy.
 
When I checked gas block it was at about 21 inch pounds so i tightened to 25 inch pounds..no bore scope so will fire and if I have problems may get borescope
 
I’m going to hijack this thread ;)

Just got mine today. I’ll be replacing the block soon enough... my question is in regaurds to upper/lower tolerances. I don’t own any AR type platform and a noob like the OP.

What is considered good tolerances on a Stag-10? Mine is a tad sloppy and rattles a bit. I can see light through the upper and lower. Don’t know if that is acceptable or just normal for a Stag?

Depends on who matched the upper/lower together. Mine has slight light bleed through. As the front pin hole on my upper was rughly handled by the assembler the coating was chipped off so I have a slight bit of movement as well.Still seems to shoot fine but my next trip to the range will be the one for groups, so time will tell.

It’s the front pin that is a tad loose on mine too. Oh well. I did order an other upper but won’t get it till next year.
 
mine has a fairly uniform light line between the upper and lower, probably half the thickness of a piece of paper, however I checked my ARs and ALL of them have light coming through, even the $$$ one. This is perfectly normal, although I do know some OCD people that mix and match pieces until they get a perfect fit, but usually then the upper and lower are almost impossible to get apart, and I like that I can take mine down (all of them) at the range or in field without tools or even having to use a bullet on the pins. They sell rubber bumpers specifically to stop any wobble (the stag does not wobble at all oddly enough), it's just something I've never worried about. My first norinco had a gap in the receivers big enough to park trudeau's ego in, and it actually shot extremely accurately. Accuracy and function are really all I worry about, at least until I get deployed to a nice sugar-sand beach...

Remember these things get dirty from the inside out, they sh!t where they eat so to speak. I think the carbon buildup would shut down an AR platform before any dust coming through the upper/lower junction :)

Agreed, S&W M&P has a bit more gap and slop but as the price increases I do tend to expect less. But as long as it shoots well and nothing is failing I can live with it. If I was in the store I'd ask to see a few just to cherry pick if I could.

As the paint is only missing on the upper around the hole and I can't see it once assembled I can live with that as well as long as rust doesn't start. I'll keep it oiled/greased up so it shouldn't be an issue. I'd use some touch up paint if I thought it would stay but I suspect it would just rub off,

As for the slight wiggle I could use a small shim, like a very thin flat washer, but since it isn't affecting function that I can tell, yet, I don't see the point. The Pmag is the only wobble or noise I notice until I break it down for cleaning.
 
Clean/oil well before use.

Ideally throw a movie or two in and work the charging handle lots and the trigger, helps smooth things out.

Check that all the bolts are tight and the gas system is aligned.
 
Well shot her for first time today.. after I cleaned and re oiled

Of 40 rounds 3 fed rest were all fail to fire and eject but also more troubling
The trigger Jamed and about 5 rounds when chambered I needed to pull trigger and it would reset and then have to pull again to fire...something is definitely wrong on multiple levels...so off to warrenty it goes. Just hope it's not a painful process
 
That sucks, it's likely just the gas block alignment and possibly the trigger group was assembled hastily. I will say they would benefit from test-firing their guns at the factory, as it seems they have a bit of assembly QC issues, however I don't think the components themselves are bad. Possibly not the best for people who haven't built an AR from parts before. Hopefully they fix er up quick and get it back to you. Who is doing the warranty work?

I had mine out Friday for a second outing and it ran 200 rounds without a single problem. It like 168gr bullets best, I achieved 1moa, nothing better, but with a 4x scope I was very pleased with that. Bolt was pretty cruddy but expected, cleaned up nicely though.
