I have my restricted license but never bought a handgun or restricted rifle b4. I know ill half to wait the 3 days and such.

Do you think it is a bad idea / pain in the a$$ to buy ur first restricted firearm from online from a Canadian? or should i just go to the local gun shop?
 
You should definitely go handle a few, find out what feels good, then do a little shopping on the interweb to compare prices. Just got mine from Canam today, couldn't be happier.
 
Buying online is a o.k. as long as you know you want the gun, and you deal with a reputable dealer. All the sponsors are obviously cool. Have at it. It is the only way i've bought, but I've had the chance to handle the guns I've wanted before hand.
 
handling them is no problem at all. we got allot of gun shops around here. Just curious about buying from online with paper work and all that. Is it like buying a rifle from a store were i just give them my drivers license and pal ? or does it take even longer to process everything (other than the 3 day wait)

some online shops like can ammo have good prices.
 
I recomend buying on line as a generality, the prices are pretty good out there if you shop around.

For a first purchase..... not so much. I would go down to the local g-store and buy a moderatley priced .22 (or if they have something you HAVE to have buy it). That way when they call in the transfer you get to talk to the CFC when they do, They can ask all of their questions, you can give all of the answers and your club name. Be prepared to Fax in a copy of your Club membership, usually the store you buy from will do it for you while you wait.

It is a very simple process. Usually its not much of a hassel (at least where I live)

not sure what you mean about a 3 day wait. I have had paperwork faxed to me from the CFO and only had to wait about 10 min at a store, same goes for my last private restricted purchase, only in the last case it took longer because I had the STATT faxed to work and had to go back there to pick it up but it was there waiting for me.
 
The benefits from ordering from a reputable online dealer is that the pistol is shipped to your home directly saving you a long wait on the phone to get a STATT
 
There is no "3 day wait". The transfer can be approved in a matter of hours, or days depending on your province and other factors. So yeah, it could take 3 days, but it could also take shorter or longer. Most transfers are completed in less time than that.
 
I ordered my first restricted online. It was one of the $99.00 Norinco's from Canadaammo.com. Should be here by the end of the week. The only problem I ran into was that the range I had a membership at was not approved for restricted weapons (I was told it was, my mistake for not checking further). Once I had joined a legit range everything was just fine. Normally I would go in to a shop, just so you can see what you're getting, but for $99.00 I couldn't pass it up!
 
Yes or not, if you buy a Sig, HK, Glock ,Beretta or CZ, you can just buy on line and pick the cheapest price. but if you want to buy a Ruger, you better by in person, check out a few and buy the one with less burr inside the action. I gone through several 2245 and finally got a really nice one with smooth action.

back on topic. Is your first restricted firearm in your hands as quick as a non restricted rifle? I was at the gun shop looking at some and the guy said i would not be able to pick it up for a few days because it was my first one. Thought that was kinda average. is this so?

Non-restricted can usually be transferred online which usually only takes a few seconds.
Restricteds go to the CFO where the delay can be a couple hours or a few days. Which province are you in? Some take longer than others. Since it is your first restricted you may have to send proof of your club membership, this can cause delays.
 
I purchased my first restricted firearm from a online dealer on may 21 and have not heard anything back from them. Is 5 business days excessive for a transfer to go through?? Before I made the purchase i joined a club and got my ATT.
 
BC is usually approved same day or next day. However, I wouldn't call 5 days excessive. If you have a reference number from the CFC you can inquire about the status of the transfer.

All I have for range membership proof is my card. Will i need to fax out a photocopy of it or is name of range and membership # all they will ask for?
 
a scan or fax of your membership card - or receipt, and they require you to have either a valid Long Term ATT or have applied for one.
