Buying used handguns good or bad idea?

Hey guys

Thank you all so much for your advice. I had a look at both glock's and Beretta's websites https://us.glock.com/customer-service/glock-warranty http://www.berettausa.com/en-us/customer-service/warranty-serial-number-information/ Turns out for both of them the warranty only works in the USA and for the original purchaser and as you guys pointed out pistols are only be used at the range here in Canada so in most cases they will be in good condition. I will do a lot of research and thoroughly inspect the gun before before I buy it.

Again thank you all very much! :) have a good one guys.

Both of my handguns were bought used (well, one was surplus, but that's sorta the same), though also bought from a store rather than an individual. And any store worth its salt wouldn't sell something that's garbage or at the very least not been maintained. So far, after 200 rounds through my 9mm, and a single box through my Tokarev, I've been satisfied that both of them are in great working order.

I've bought new about 40% of the time, so buying used is a good idea in my mind. You save money; usually cost compared to new is lower, no tax on personal sale, most time shipping is included in price. Also depending on the make/model, the older ones were built much better.

Also if wanting a warranty, most times not worth the paper it is printed on. And if you do get something warrantied be prepared to wait. Warranty work in this country is painfully slow.

I buy new and used. Used if the gun is rare, hard to find new, or expensive. Given the sale prices on say a S&W M&P range kit, I'd see what was out there used and compare it to the retail sales. If there is a big enough difference and I feel good about the used piece then I'd go used.

All of my used guns have turned out to be great deals in great shape. Good luck to you.

Unless you're saving a huge amount of money, I find that having a shortlist to buy new on a good sale usually turns out better than buying used on EE. Every time I have looked, prices on EE for a used item are the same or more than fair-priced new stuff at good stores like Alflahertys or Tenda. Even Cabelas beats EE sometimes lol :p

I used to buy and sell through my local gun stores. Since I discovered CGN and the EE, I have bought only one new pistol from a store. All my subsequent purchases have been for almost new or slightly used pieces that I have been totally satisfied with. That's a credit to the awesome sellers I've been fortunate enough to deal with.

When I decide I need a new gun, I read and study and try to shoot an example of it. Then I lurk on the EE for the right piece at the right price, then jump on it, negotiating on the price if a little over my budget.

I've saved a lot of money in the last 9 years i've been buying and selling on the EE.

I bought several new and several used. I have good experiences from most sellers on the EE.
