Over the next while I would like to buy a few rifles from the WW2 era, such as the following:

1. Lee Enfield
2. Mauser 98K
3. Springfield M1 Garand

I would like them to be of the same specs as the WW2 time period variants. Where is my best bet to begin looking for good quality shooters of each model. Also what is the exact model of the WW2 time period for each rifle, I know there are several variants of the Enfield and Mauser.

Milsurps are like the that chip ad - "Bet ya can't take just one." Once you have those three you'll have realised you've missed out on the Japanese counterpart to the american rifle, the russian 91/30, and the no4 mk1, which was used more than the smle in ww2, (Australians used the smle, the rest of the british and such troops used no4's in various forms). From there, it will get worse.

- From 1939 to about 1943: Lee-Enfield No.1 MKIII* AKA SMLE

- From 1942 to 1945: No4 MKI (British) & No4 MKI* (Canadians)

"...the exact model..." No. 4 Mk I or Mk I*. The No. 1 Mk III was used early in the war and by Home Guard troopies, as well as ANZAC troopies. A No. 4 Rifle is not an SMLE.
With any Lee-Enfield, check the headspace before you shoot it. You should get proof of good headspace before you buy.

Not to derail, but I'd say the SMLE was issued as much if not more widely than the No.4 in WWII.

The ANZAC's used them, and the entire british army was equipped with them at the onset of the war. In fact, with the exception of the Canadians, i'd say every commonwealth army used SMLE's in greater numbers than the No.4 over the whole war.

Looks like you'll will have to buy both the SMLE ( ShtLE ) and a No4 !
I bet Savage-Man would be interested in the Savage/Stevens made No4Mkl*

Whew, I hope you know what you are getting into here. Good luck with your new addiction. Just keep an eye on all the used firearm websites. Tradex & P&S are good places to start. The EE forum on this site is also an excellent place to look as mentioned by Canuck. Ask lots of questions here, & research your purchases before you make them. There are a lot of unscrupulous sellers out there. I have a list of sites that sell Milsurps, but the rules prohibit me from posting them here as they are NOT paying advertisers.
