Thanks fellas. It was the first moose I ever killed with Something besides a bow. The terrain was new to me aswell - it was a southern hunt not the northern bush country I'm usually in. On the flip side, I made my brother back HIS truck right up to it so that was nice. :)

My Kootenay Moose - LEH 45.5 inch green spread

I took my boys, 6 and 2, out hunting hoping to find a whitetail doe or something for us to shoot. I was in moose ish country but was not expecting to see one... Anyways, they both passed out in my suzuki before we were 10 minutes from town and had a good 45 minute nap before I stopped and jumped out to get a better look at a herd of 6 or 7 mule deer. One had a decent rack so I threw my binos onto the seat and grabbed my gun to run up the bank and get a good look (they have to be 4 point or larger in our region) and when i closed the door i just happened to look behind me and in the middle of the block there was this beauty of a moose. We were above the fog so he was sky lined down hill from us about 200 yards but facing straight away from me... Now I could have gone for the 'Texas Heart Shot', but the road wrapped around for a better shot. So I hopped back in my sidekick, reached behind the seat and smacked both my kids and yelled "Boys theres a huge moose, wake up!!" haha, now I was full moose fever, ground a couple of gears and we went about 400 years around block and stopped with him almost perfectly broadside. Now I am a novice hunter but I knew I had time to get a good rest and take a quality shot, but that went right the hell out the window, I got out, loaded my mag into my 30-06 and blasted him freestanding. Noticing my VX-3 was on 12 power, for a shot less than 100 yards, I immediately doubted my shot, so I ran to where the moose was... And by run I mean I RAN, out of breath and trying to grunt I got him to walk back up and I drilled him at about 60 yards. The pics tell the rest of the story, I gutted him with my boys, had my father in law and his brother help me finish field dressing him and hauled him out the next day. On a side note, both bullets hit through the liver and one stopped against the hide and the other in the flank meat about 1.5 inches apart.

I had difficulty loading your pictures earlier, but I can see them now. Terrific animal, terrific story and memory, congrats!

I'll bet those two little guys will grow up to be hunters.:)

Hope you don't mind ...

Is your bull from the NE or NW Ardent?

Nice moose everyone; hoping to get my first next year. Unfortunately I only had time for one unsuccessful hunt this season.

Did we have a picture of this one? I think I need to see!

I wish a couple others would come forward (chuck if you read this)- but it's of course upto them. Some unreal moose were taken this season, both here in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

I decided to post another one from this year. My sister-in-laws first big game animal, a hard to get moose draw in Saskatchewan (if the terrain wasn't enough of a giveaway). With 4 kids at home, it was hard for the two of them to get out together. She passed several bulls, and decided on this guy(46"). Perfect shot, from a custom 260 Remington I built her using 125gr nosler partitions. When they were taking pictures, others may have been sneaking their own pics ;) - although it doesn't showcase the antlers perfectly, I like this one the best.

That's a cool picture, and like you said, not one where one would normally expect moose to hang out. Almost looks like the terrain of brown bear on Kodiak Island.
