I owe a huge thanks to my good friend Pat for passing this along to me. I have almost completed the letter blocks now with this addition so I was super excited to add this one to the collection. It's a really nice condition piece but pretty standard as far as g blocks go. The gqm43 buttplate is a bit odd showing up this late but there are others in this range recorded with 43 dated bp's so not exactly uncommon. I do like the rear band numbering placement. MO seemed to be pretty random with placing the numbers in this location and I do have a couple others numbered like this but they aren't as common as the normal location for sure.

what are the letter blocks and whats the story on the one with no stock?

From left to right: no letter, b, c, d, d, e, f, g, h, i, late k, l, l, l, l.

The barreled action on the end is a very late l block action. It's a matching action that someone had badly sanded and buggered up the sling cut out on the original stock. The stock was basically garbage so the gun was parted out and I was able to grab the action and lower band. Unfortunately the upper band was sold before I got to it but eventually I'll find one and an unmessed with stock to restore it. It's the neat variation where MO used a "l" instead of "L" on the receiver serial. Apparently the regular "L" stamp was broken at that time in production. They also used an "i" in place of the "L" on some.

Good lord man, have you ever given any thought to doing a very picture rich coffee table book on Mausers showing the detail we all appreciate in your pics posted here ?
