BYF 98K Mauser

Also I'm looking to get a repro sling and cleaning rod. However i'm rather new to the 98k scene and don't know what to look for in a good repro. Could anyone suggest a website that has these and look as original as possible.

Thanks

If it were my rifle I wouldn't refinish it. It appears to be in fairly good condition for a rifle of it's age that has been through a war.

Go to www.atthefront.com, they have very nice repro-slings for a decent price. I dealt with them years ago and had no issues at all.

You can't really tell from the pictures but some of the colour is gone from the stock. I'd be real nice to refinish it but I don't want to take its history away either. I'm torn.. esthetics or history?

And that website is sold out for cleaning rods. Since mine is a 1943, i'm assuming i need the 12 inch rod!?!

You can clean the stock with turpentine or acetone and then handrub in a bunch of coats of BOILED LINSEED OIL and a lot of the colour will return. Also you can steam a lot of dents out of the stock as well.12 inch rods are required. Try Mario Kabalt in Holland, just got an original 98k stock and cleaning rod from him. Rod was $40US shipped and is original. For his e-mail google 98k stocks.com and his 5MEI website should be there.
Hope this helps.
