This just arrived. Byf45 no letter. High condition, a few armourer parts mixed in. White glue. Unlike some rubby members, (jbmauser) this is my first Mauser Oberndorf kriegsmodell.

Wow, nice piece in excellent clean condition, congrats!

Great photos, they really show how desperate things were towards the end of war, lots of cost cutting measures on these kriegs and ruff machining.

Thanks for sharing canadianar!

Neat! Love those chatter marks. One can only imagine the situation, having to proof a rifle with so much evidence of hurry, hurry, hurry.

Thanks for sharing those pics. :)

I have a mosin that looks like it was built with the same level of haste. I think it is a '41. They just scream history when they look like that.

Beautiful mauser you have there. Makes me think that my yugo just doesn't cut it...

How does the barrel look inside? Was it well finished - or ruf?

While the late war rifles from MO certainly look crude they were still made with precision and care where it counted. Lots of sniper rifles were built on byf45's and later so accuracy was still up to spec. Metal quality and heat treat were still very important and no short cuts were taken in those departments. Everything was still tracked carefully including barrel makers and their lots. Basically it was cosmetics that suffered. Some function was lost with the removal of the bayonet lug and there are some instances of inferior "scrub walnut" being used for stocks but for the most part they were still a quality rifle built to be reliable and function well.
