It matters to you a lot more than you think. With C-71 you have to ask for a STATT to take your restricted to a gunsmith.

So no going to a gunsmith on week-ends unless you asked permission first.

Not only that. C-71 goes through, handguns are next, then AR-15 (evil incarnate with mind of its own), then "military style" weapons, then all semis.

The only reason we are not completely disarmed yet is that there is a large appendage of governmental bureaucracies that is feeding on "Gun control problem".

Do NOT listen if you want to keep your blood pressure in check. Lies, fact twisting, empty rhetoric with straight faces and paid by our taxes.

Too late:

So it the reading done? What was made of this? Did it pass today and is not going for Royal Assent? I've read this whole thread, it seems further debate is deferred? But I am unsure of what that means. I would just like to have a timeline of earliest possible dates of this being put into law. A week, a month?

How a bill becomes law
The legislative process
First Reading
The bill is considered read for the first time and is printed.
Second Reading
Members debate the bill’s principle.
Committee Stage
Committee members study the bill clause by clause.
Report Stage
Members can make other amendments.
Third Reading
Members debate and vote on the bill.
Senate
The bill follows a similar process.
Royal Assent
The bill receives Royal Assent after being passed by both Houses.

Thanks for this! It is info I've never seen presented before - more math and physics in school.

So does the government have specified days for Senate readings? If they said this will be revisited in the next one, I am wondering then that is. Subsequently, once the senate approves it, how quickly can it be hypothetically given Royal Assent? Sorry if these are basic questions, but it is not a process I am familiar with.

So for those of us with a deposit on the Modern Sporters yet TB manufactured, is it possible just to pay the other half to complete the transaction and let you modify my firearm and deliver it next year?

Yes. Since the rcmP decided that an aluminum block that "could be" turned into gun now IS a gun every block of aluminum here now has a serial number. We just have yet to assign these serial numbers to individuals that placed deposits only. Those paid in full have serial numbers assigned.

I just gave this a little thought and correct me if I am wrong....regardless when C71 kicks in...ATRS would still have an in house record of selling it to the individual that is subject to production order or subpoena in the event if the cops wants to find out about a rifle. It would be clear as day if the possession date is after the date C71 becomes law that the individual with the purchase record would be in possession of the rifle from that point on wouldn't it? I can't see ATRS completely file an order that still pending possession of the product...they will need to know how many order are still out standing and how many took possession. Even if you take the spin and said you are just hold on to the rifle and the transaction is over...you would still need the person who is coming to pick up the rifle to sign something later to show they took the rifle on this day and you are no longer in possession of the said rifle....that can also be subpoenaed. (like a shipping date or tracking number)

Just because they won't call in for a reference number if you pay in full before C71 becomes law....the in house record will still point the direction to you if they give you back the rifle down the road on a future date after C71.There is now way you can get around it logically because your future possession day will be recorded by ATRS on file and will be subject to LEA if they want to find out.

Yes and no with a touch of maybe dusted over this. The only records we keep for NR are tax records which requires a RFI from the CRA to obtain or a warrant that is specific.
I will not go into detail as to what info we keep or how it is coded etc. but suffice to say it won't be easy for anyone to figure it out.
Restricted are a whole different thing, we have to record info in a government owned book that they have access to on a whim if they choose.

Trudeau Has ‘Secret Plan’ to Ban Guns in June, MP Clement Says
9 May 2019

TheGunBlog.ca — Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has a “secret plan” to order a “sweeping gun ban” from lawful owners next month, said Tony Clement, a member of parliament from the opposition Conservative Party.

Clement spoke to TheGunBlog.ca in a telephone interview today after rising in the House of Commons to ask the government about the Liberal Party plan.

He said he obtained the information from a source with “very specific information” who is unrelated to the firearm industry or any gun-rights association. Clement declined to identify the source or where they work.

‘Sweeping Gun Ban’

“The source had very specific information that Prime Minister Trudeau wants to announce before the fall election campaign a sweeping gun ban on hitherto legal firearms,” Clement told TheGunBlog.ca.

The plan is to order the mass confiscation by Cabinet directive without a vote in parliament, Clement said.

“I find this very concerning and not democratic,” Clement said.

Trudeau’s plan is to announce the mass confiscation at that women’s conference in early June, where New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinta Ardern will be present, Clement said.

Blair Responds

“I just want to assure this House that our government remains absolutely committed to taking all the measures that are effective in keeping Canadians safe,” Minister Bill Blair replied to Clement today in Question Period. “And as I believe every member of this House will agree, there is no greater responsibility for any order of government than the safety of their citizens and the protection of their kids. We are prepared to consider whatever measures will be effective in doing so.”

Blair is wrapping up an examination of mass confiscation aimed at lawful gun owners. All firearms are banned already for anyone without a firearm licence.

The Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Public Safety and Blair’s office didn’t respond immediately to a request by TheGunBlog.ca for comment.
