I recently bought a bunch of stuff at an estate sale and these boxes of 30-06 ammo were included.
I thought they were cool so I thought I'd share some pics for you C Broad Arrow fans.
I've never come across these before: What's the story on them? And what rifle were they meant for?

Thanks!

Canada received a large number of US Model 1917 rifles used for training, also US Model 1919A1 GPMG were used on many of our Armored Vehicules.

Probably for the m1917 rifles they got.

Some boob decided it would be smart to separate the bolts from the rifles and ship them separately. As a result, the various regions had to re-headspace all the miss-matched bolts.

If you do some searching on this forum, you will find a few posts about the Canadian issued M17's. They were handed out with a red painted band around the wood near the muzzle, stencilled over top in black paint "30-06" to clearly differentiate them from the P14s in .303. My theory is that the red band on the boxes of ammo is to make it clear that it was meant to be used with the rifles bearing the band of red paint. Here is a photo of my rifle and the remnants of the original red band of paint:

Luckily in this case it was a friend of a friend deal... and a few of us got to go and get first dibs.
... I also found an 1888 bayonet for my Long Lee.;)

1919 .30 Browning MG's were .30-06. Mind you, the ammo may have been loaded for shipping to the States.
"...in 20 rounds boxes..." Just the standard packaging. 7.62NATO came in 'em too.
