
Like many other military surplus rifles, the selling prices of these has gone through the roof.
Complete sets, original rifle in the chest, will go north of two grand - sometimes a lot more.
I suspect that many of the buyers want one for the same reason that you do - used one in cadets. That is why I bought my first one (which is a parts gun).
Personally, I don't think a clone like the one I posted is worth any more than the sum of the parts and the time it took to build. It is only representative, and a fun shooter. But no collector value.
Same as the No. 2 Mk.IV clone I made up out of assorted salvaged SMLE parts. Fun .22 but no collector value.
A .22 No. 5 clone would be interesting.
As projects, .22 conversions are worthwhile projects. Good way to put barrels with horrible bores to use.
Over the years, there were a number of .22 training conversions done. The Israeli K98K based ones are an example.
